1968 sd mufflers

Hello

Were the mufflers 2.5 inlet and 2.25 outlet on the 396 cars?

Ours has a walker exhaust factory tail pipes look 2.25. its straight pipe with cherry bombs, with the bombs installed behind the diff so tailpipes are junk i fear.would like to put a factory style walker muffler and tail pipes on.

Anyone have a part # for tailpipes?

Thanks

According to the AMA specs for the 1968 Chevelles, the 396s used 2.5" exhaust pipes (therefore muffler inlet diameter is 2.5") & 2.25" tailpipes (therefore muffler outlet diameter is 2.25").

I don't have the Walker #s for the mufflers. From the factory the L.H. muffler was zinc-coated sheet steel while the R.H. muffler was stainless (due to the heat riser valve on the R.H. manifold).
