Thats a jacka** move. Take it to the media and roast the owner of the plaza for being a narcissistic jerk.

How does that stop people with their cars from going to the A&W?

Had the same thing happen here a few years back. Local Burger joint had a big thing

then it got too big and Mall owners closed it down and gave tickets to some people for parking too long.

Everyone stopped going and now they are trying to get everyone back, Too late now, people found other place that were willing to

take them in open arms. They wanted the cars and people to come and spend money.

Boy...in this day and age it seems like Idiots are born every second...not every minute. 1 complaint form a store owner and shut her down, even though many of the other shop owners may have enjoyed/welcomed it. Don't know the details but seems to be the way of the days. Had the same thing happen at 2 of our get together's ( Ogden Point/ Francelli's). These meets brought a lot of attention to local vendors and the tourists loved getting off the ship and see all the old classics. Seems they all look at the cons...not the pros. Even have bylaws against street hockey on quiet rural roads because it's a nuisance to wait 5 seconds for kids to move there net!no Stay in your house....sit on your couch and you won't pi$$ anyone off! My Friday night rant......hope you find an establishment  that appreciates what you guys bring!

I have to wonder if the mall owner was warned by his insurance company that he had no liability in his insurance policy to cover a gathering of cars ?

Al, that is an excellent point you bring up. In today's age of liability and law suits and having to cover your ass every second of the day, you are probably right.

A&W had separate blanket Insurance policy covering these cruises, so that's not an issue!!!

That is good to know A&W has a blanket insurance coverage. Sunday night gatherings are at an A&W parking lot in Timmins.

It doesn't but, lot not roped off so your bound to get a door "ding", no music, no organization, no 50/50, no door prize draws, + your likely not covered by your classic insurance, as it's not a authorized cruise/car show.  your on your own!!!

Looks like the "somebody" got some media attention. Wonder if the "somebody" will get  this  story also on Global news?

Property ownership allows you get to call the shots on how your property is used. Nonetheless I found that article well written and balanced save for a comment from A&W. It would be helpful to understand the exact reasons for the owner's decision though and a comment from A&W management would have shed better light on this.

After six years the plaza patrons and businesses never complained.

Had there been an issue, the businesses would have complained to the owners.

The plaza owners may have felt it was affecting business at the plaza, but  the truth is it probably

created business during the show and shine and the rest of the week.....negative fallout from this may
now affect business in a way they won't like.

The local to me cruise-in was shut down this year too. I'm very interested in understanding the rationale of the Mall/Plaza owners in doing this however ascertaining the facts that guide their decisions is not forthcoming. I understand that cruisers feel vested in "their" locations and these type of unexplained decisions often lead to emotional responses. As Sergeant Joe Friday of Dragnet would often say, "Just the facts ma'am, just the facts"

Sucks, but the truth is not all investment group management operate out of the goodness of their hearts. This group likely saw no expectation of any additional revenue for the use of their property.

Obviously not car people either. We know that type.

Thats awful- sign of the times. My wife and I along with some friends took over our local cruise. We moved it on to town property in a desperate search for a parking lot. Town tourism did an audit and study of our event and determined it has a positive local economic impact on our community and are now scheduling a meeting with us looking for ways that can help support it and promote it.

People dont realize the positive impact it cant have it run properly.

Is that a public document or report, I'd love to read it and find out what the metrics were in reaching their conclusion. The report may be scalable and applicable to other cruise night locations or at least the methodology could be used as a template for others to follow and present findings when negotiating new locations or maintaining locations.

Ill get the report once we meet.  Ill see what it is all about exactly and see if it can be shared upon request.  If not I will certainly share key notes to help others

Was that the Route 66 cruise? I ventured out there 2 weeks ago and it was gone. I know that Route 66 itself has gone out of business but it looks like the location itself is not available. Currently too much construction along Eglinton & that area to attract clean cars anyway. Maybe the 1950s Doo Wop music got to the neighbors (wouldn't surprise me).

Back when our local car club, The East-Enders, was in operation we would host a yearly show at Rylander Plaza (Rylander & Kingston Roads). One person would talk to the landlord & explained the benefits of running the show. They let us show there for a few years. It was the club's demise, not the landlord's decree that shut it down for us.

Liability. It is just a word to many of us, but it is always a consideration for any property owner.

Yes, I didn't pay enough attention to why but the landlord was blamed. It in the hinterland now, Bridlewood Mall in north Scarborough. Pack a bullet proof vest.

Here's what a bloger had to say about the place:

AND THE WINNER IS...

#1 BRIDLEWOOD MALL
First off, this is the only mall that I know of in existence which was built around an actual cemetery. The grave site is over 100 years old, and it sits there with the dignified backdrop of a Price Chopper, Rogers Video and parking lot surrounding it. I mean, what the f$#@? Who the h@$# OK'd this? I know it's not as bad as actually building ON TOP of the graveyard, but who the f*&^ wants to spend an eternity buried on the doorstep of a Zellers? My university professor once referred to Bridlewood Mall as "the ultimate post-modern nightmare of consumerism" (YAY!).

Another big reason why this place is hands-down the #1 worst mall in the city- the food court. It has 2! Count 'em 2 lousy food stands; The Burger joint "Burger Palace" and the Chinese food place "Oriental Wok" (each one facing directly opposite one another from either side of the food court). As a kid I would generally choose the Chinese food place 9 times out of 10 (sweet & sour chicken balls and stir-fried rice were "the s^%$s"), but when I did go to Burger Palace I'd only order the deep fried halibut and fries with gravy  About 5 years ago the Chinese food place changed ownership and it's never been nearly as good ever since. The old Greek guy who owns the Burger Palace has been there day in, day out for easily over 20 years. Just the other day I passed by the place to eat something out of pure nostalgia, and the guy remembered me from 10 years ago when my mom used to take me. I was amazed how instantly he recognized me. When he retires or dies I feel a bit of my childhood will die along with him... (so don't stop flippin' those burgers as$$h$#e!). Regardless of all my blessed childhood memories, Bridlewood Mall is still a giant festering s%$thole.

Not sure how you likely wouldn't be covered by your classic insurance if you go to A&W for a burger.

Ontario is a strange place - I've said it before, but not for a while - I have no idea how you people live there.
