Wanted - 1964 Clutch Bell Housing - Wanted

I'll be switching my powerglide to a Muncie M22 in about a month or so  (I hope)  and I'm still looking for

a 1964 bell housing casting number 3840383......or even casting number 3858403.

Hoping to find this casting number bell housing, but may have to consider others that will work.

I'm not interested in 1963 or older as I want to use a 10 1/2 clutch (1963 uses 10 inch clutch)

Closer to Calgary the better to cut shipping costs.....but if I have to, will consider whatever is out there.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-G

I'll check. I know I had one but it may have found a new home when we cleaned up and moved off our acreage.

The old ones, 62 and prior, will take an 11 inch clutch, but they are mostly cast iron open bottom. You dont want a 63 because your m22 wont fit into the opening for the retainer. I have a cast iron in mine with an 11 inch clutch and a late 60s flywheel. The 62 and prior flywheels were 168 tooth and will take a 10.5 inch clutch. Same bolt pattern as a 10 inch

When closed bottom aluminum for trucks, these are the later years (70's +?) and have a bump in the bottom. Some also have a larger opening for the transmission front retainer and you have to shim them to use with a M22.

If you are not looking for "numbers matching", I'd find a 55-62 cast iron open bottom BH with the starter mount, some have side mounts. They are cheap and easy to find and I think still work fine with a block mounted starter and a 153 tooth flywheel. Any 153 tooth and 168 tooth flywheel will take a 10.5 inch clutch and PP and if you use this with a 168 tooth, you can use the BH starter mount and never have to worry about starter alignment/shims.

The 62 or 63 409 had an aluminum open bottom, worth finding the numbers on this one. Other than that, it may be a truck.

That's worth money to a "correct" 409 guy. Post on 348-409 and ask what its worth. Clean it up and take a pic.
