To import the vette into Canada the vin would have been cleared at the border, what more could a buyer do? The Cdn car must have been registered with maybe ncrs and then the Penn s car tried to do the same. 63 vettes has a serial number stamped on 2 spots on the frame and had only one vin tag under the glove box. Be interesting to see which one is the real deal.

What if it is the American car that is the fake, and not the Saskatchewan Corvette?

Or if at the Corvette factory the same I.D. was placed on both vehicles?

The theory that at one point the car was cloned and forgotten over time doesn't make sense,

a car can be cloned, but I've never heard of the VIN number legally being allowed as part of the cloning.

Doesn't the VIN of a car stay part of the vehicle forever?

Interesting dilemma.

I thought just the same - Now is it really the vin that is in question or the ID Tag? How can they truly verify this information on a US car? Didn't all the records burn? I cant see how 2 cars would have the same> I too would be curious to fin out if the American one is the fake.

One would think that there would have to be a paper trail for both vehicles that would lead back to when they were first registered.  The problem could be how far back the records go, and how well they were kept.  The US states seem to have varying rules from state to state, so that's probably where it gets complicated.  Plus, it sounds like the Canadian vehicle must have been imported at some point.

Hopefully there will be a followup posted online so we can see what happens here - I sure wouldn't want to be the guy in Sask finding out that he's suddenly being drug into some sort of legal battle over an old car he purchased to enjoy... no

There has to be a logical explaination. GM did some strange stuff in the '60's and "what if" they both were stamped with the same vin's? Then what?? If I was the guy in Canada I would be having my 'Vette gone through and documented. There has to be a paper trail on both cars. That's a pickle I wouldn't want to be in.
