235 vs 261 6 Cylinder
(
1 2 3
)
(Preview)
My 1957 Canadian sales brochure states that 1957 Laurentians and Pathfinders were equipped with 235 six cylinder engines. I suppose this means Chevy Six. I see cars listed before 1957 and after 1957 equipped with 261 six cylinder engines; I assume these are truck engines. What is correct for 1957? W...

Dilemma - what to do with my 261
(Preview)
Long run, of course, it is coming out, to be replaced by my 496. If I could solve the 261's problems (rough running due to one bad cylinder i.e. 30 psi compression, and chronic overheating/coolant loss) I thought about driving it with the 261 for a while, maybe a year or so, get a little enjoyment from the...

1957 Canadian Pontiac engines, can you say 283/283?
(Preview)
Halfbreed sent me his (very large) pdf file of the complete 57 specs, here is the (very interesting - the famous 283/283 could be special ordered!) section that shows the engine choices: If anyone would like to see other sections of the specs, let me know and I'll make a picture. (I think that the whole...

Need 261 head gasket, does anyone have a good source?
(Preview)
The bad cylinder (#6) is definitely bad valve (not pushrod or rocker or rings, those tests were passed), so the head has to come off. I am sure I can get valves locally since they are identical to 235 Chevy. However the head gasket is different, and pretty much obsolete here in the US. My local guy is going...

Help! Starter drive 1956 6-cylinder
(Preview)
Mine died, the local guy put in one that is the right length (Chevy drive is longer) but he did not check diameter and it is too big so it will not engage the flywheel (just grinds against it) -- problem is, the parts book lists 1956 Canadian Pontiac 6 but does not have a part number for the drive! Chevy is SDN...
