Sorry if this has already been posted, but if you haven't seen these they are definitely worth a look (click on the link below for all the images and don't forget to click on "view full size" to see all the details!):
I just noticed that the straight sixes are green in colour while the V8's are orange, W Series and small block. Hmmmm, are these Canadian Poncho mills?
Notice the orange exhaust manifolds. All of the "correctly restored" engines I've seen have them grey or just puts a bit of orange overspray on them. They look completely orange to me!
No question about that Todd, you will even see many Canadian Pontiac Sales Brocuhres with oranage painted manifolds too. So much for all those cast colour "correct" Corvettes we see etc... etc...
Pretty neat Fred, say I have located photos of GM Canada's Scarborough Van plant in the day and now as a retail complex but they are bmp files and will not upload.
I tell my kids that this mall was a GM plant and the streets never existed until it was torn down but they can't believe me because of the sheer size of the site on Eglinton Ave right in the City of Toronto.
Can you look for some aerials of Scarborough van then and now?

Were Chevy sixes painted green back in 59 ?
The colour may be off a little due to the age of the photos. Most of the sixes in these pics look decidedly blue to my eyes.
About 15 years ago I was looking at a low-mile original-family '59 Bel Air with the sixer. The motor had never been touched and it was definitely blue.
The '60 Bel Air I had years ago had a 6 that was supposedly taken out of an old pickup by the previous owner and it was a similar green to those that I have seen in Pontiacs. Did Chevy trucks use the green? Or maybe GMC? Is it possible that the greenish ones were to be installed in trucks?
i loved those pics, just wish i could reach into them and grab a couple parts!! Im going to look at my manifolds now and see if there is any orange left anywhere on them.
