So today I officially have a rust free car, replaced the second half of the window channel, and replaced the lower window channel. I also replaced the 2 rust holes in the dash corner pieces. The bottom of the convertible windshield bow was very rusty, I had a sheetmetal company make me up some patches and I sectioned those in, trying to maintain a proper factory curve. I started in earnest on the 29th of September when I pulled the body and have really only worked 4-6 hours a day on weekends so I am happy with the progress. On a downside I may have been scammed on my doors as I have been getting excuse after excuse on why they aren't here, fingers crossed. In 20 years of dealing with hundreds of people on the internet it will be a first. I did run out of roloc finishing discs so done until they show up.
Absolutely, been busy, just got back from Edmonton yesterday ,picked up a truck but was back at it today. I ended up getting my money back on doors so that was good, I am just going to buy new ones and sell the AMD skins I have, I don't really need them until body is back on frame anyways. I am ready to primer the windshield channel and dash to cowl piece I welded in. I did have to alter it slightly as the ends were both to wide and long.
I walked a few miles at the Portland swap meet last week and never found any sheetmetal other than a trunk and a rusty hood, no inner fenders, doors, fenders etc, slim pickins for anything 66 related. I did get an early production set of inserts for my AMD hood and after 15 minutes of hole altering , got them in, fit well for aftermarket hood and OEM inserts.
I am working on welding everything back on the floor so I can get it and the firewall painted. Then I can put it back on the frame and continue bodywork. I rescued my rear tail panel supports and fixed the rust issues in them so I could reuse them, finally cut my seat brackets out and need to bead blast them and weld them on.
wow what a great thread and you are kickin ass thanks for sharing all this nice work

yes thanx for the up date, funny how that goes at swap meets that you can find a number of ones to chose from or nothing. I have been looking for a set of original inner front fenders for my friends 67 chevelle with no luck. That hood is going to look great on your car.

Thx guys, Kevin, I just bought an inner fender from a place in Portland Or, they said they had both sides but only had drivers side. Rust free nice driver quality, 20.00, they had a couple more driver sides but that was 2 months ago, I can call and check if you want.

On a side note, I met the guy in Portland that sold me these doors a couple months ago. Wow, what do people think, I told him all I wanted was the shells so skin condition didn't matter. He says shells are perfect, no rust or damage but they had dents in the skins. I look at the driver side and you could have passed a softball through the rust hole in the back lower corner, a golf ball would have gone through the front lower, I look at the other door and it looked like it had been hit when opened and wrapped around back onto the fender. I couldn't have fixed it and doubt if a skilled bodyman would have even wasted his time. All in all I would have been embarrassed to even try to sell them and the doors on my scrap pile were twice as good. Buyer beware but thank god I never paid to ship them, I would have been pissed.

Here is my car in as found condition, many hours ago.
This 66 was our family car when we were kids, I think we had it for 10+ years, all 4 of us kids rode in the back seat with no seat belts. It was a 327 4 Spd car and a who knew how rare that car was at the time. The 68 SD I bought when I was 18 for 1500.00, stupid me sold it and it went to Alberta in the late 80's, it was a 396 turbo 400 car.

my friend needs a pair of 67 and I am told they are not the same as 66. That would be great if you could call them for a pair of 67s thanx

Haven't posted in awhile but still moving forward. I put the body back on the frame so I could finish 4 speed hole, mount the console brackets etc. I am going to do all bodywork whilst on the frame, pull body and finish car. I bought new AMD doors and figured I better cut bracing out, glad I did as it popped a 1/4" after I did it. Just going to work on gaps and getting everything fitting nice.
I screwed up and had a little bit too much material on the quarter and once the door was on it was quite clear I had to remove it.
Aftermarket doors aren't OEM doors so we will make the gaps a little more tolerable.
