hello most knowledgeable poncho personages! am needing your expert help again! When I bought my car the headliner was already torn out and the bows in the trunk - not marked in any way. My question is, "other than doing a puzzle for what could be a very long time, does anyone know where I could find a pattern, pictures or something that would let me know which bow goes where?"

I'm not a 55-56 specialist, but I think you could take some info from the tri-five chevy. It would be easier to obtain... there is so info about those car..... you should find something.
good luck.

The headliner bows are called Listing Supports. They are colour coded from front to back.
Support 1 Neutral no colour Support 2 Black and Neutral Support 3 White and Neutral Support 4 Yellow and Neutral Support 5 Red and Neutral Support 6 Blue and Neutral
You will have to check each listing as the paint is only small dabs not the whole part painted.

Hope he's wright or else you have your hand full . When I had my liner installed the guy told me if the bows were out of the old liner find some one else. I don't know if you have a head liner yet but I got mine of eBay from a place called goliners it fit real nice and the guy that installed its has been doing it for 50 years and he said it was real nice.

The tricky part will be determining the 1st and 2nd bows. If the id paint is worn off you are in trouble unless you find a part number on the bow. It might help to surf Chevy Talk but you must compare your headling bows to a belair 4 door sedan. They are the same as your Laurentian. I am sure the id order I gave you is correct as I checked the parts book again to make sure.
I would also paint the bows with por 15 or some other rust paint before installing the headling bows. Yours have been sitting in the trunk and have probably absorbed some moisture and will have a little bit of rust. By painting them you will avoid rust stains from bleeding into the headling and ruining it.

thanks Al, you're right they are getting a bit rusty and i had planned to clean them up for the very reason you state. restoring the markers might be a good idea too. (ya never know).

and 1 is either black or blue - really hard to tell. then it will be a matter of seeing which one is neutral. i also have a smaller one that isspiral wrapped in that old brown paper -sort of like some old wiring this color thing has been a huge huge help!!!

The one with wiring might be the one for the dome light. They probably cut both ends.

you're right, the ends are cut off. there is no wiring on it, just the paper wrapping

Thanks again Al, your info sure made my job a great deal easier. Just left with 2 unspecified bows, and according to "murphy's laws", the two most needed - the black one and the no color one. I was not able to find any trace of paint on either one, a couple of ends were just too rusty. but knowing 4 out of 6 will go a very long way to being able to figure it out! as you suggested, I sanded them down (the hard way with hands and sandpaper) and sprayed them with some clear paint out of a can to try keep headliner clean. so I accomplished somethig at least.
