If it had a 400 the letters would be XX and the heads are 11's

Some had Pontiac 350 2 barrel as well.

Whats the vin on your Lemans Sport? We can check to see if its a Canadian one , if so most likely had the chevy block in it, or you can check your engine mounting plates in the saddle.. Take a pic and someone should be able to tell you if it was a Pontiac block or Chevy Block in her.
And possibly it will also say on the cowl plate.. If its an M40 then it would be a Pontiac 400 block as they would not put a Turbo 400 with a small block or a 6 cyl

Our 70 2dr post Tempest from Oshawa had a Pontiac 350. I can't say I have ever seen a 70 with a Chevy 350 but for sure 71 & 72's had them as does my 73.

I don't think that's correct for 1970. 71 and up can have sbc but I think a 70 should have the Pontiac engine.

Wow, that 72 is really nice. Keith Tedford owned it and was responsible for the rebuild & repaint work.
Regarding the 350s, it simply is a matter of where the car was built as to whether it was Chevy or Pontiac powered. In 1978 I do remember a friend's cousin buying a nice original 1970 Tempest hardtop coupe with a factory Chevy 350 with the Pontiac 350 air cleaner decal. It also had a Powerglide, power steering & manual drums, wheel covers and an AM radio. It was Citrus Green, that midyear lime-yellow metallic with black cloth interior. Later he painted it tangerine, added a GTO hood, 15x10 Ansen Sprints out back, ladder bars, a T-handle Hurst-shifted 4-speed, and I don't recall what ended up under the hood (I think he went with a big block Chevy). I don't know what became of the car after 1980. Last seen in Freelton, Ontario.
Back in the late 1980s there was a 1970 Lemans Sport hardtop coupe near where I live. It had a factory 250 six in it. It was metallic gold, like a sand colour. I'll bet it was inherited from somebody's grandma. It was so clean & stock.
In 1988 my neighbor Cliff wheeled out his newly-purchased from original owner 1972 Lemans GT, 400 4-speed with manual everything. At that point I decided to collect more literature on it like the brochure & interior / exterior trim books. His was never in road salt . Stock right down to the original side split exhaust & GTO exhaust system. It also had a 3.55 Safe-T-Track & a Hurst shifted original Super T-10 (I was expecting a Muncie to be honest, but it was never changed). I had GM document it for him back when. He bought a 1972 GTO tach for it & installed it.

You cousin's friend (whose name I don't remember) went to Waterdown High School. I grew up in Carlisle.
