Hi, I am a new member doing a frame off rebuild on my 66 SD. Although it is not a stock restoration, I would like it to have all the trim that it was standard on an SD. I have all the Body side trim but it is rough. Was wondering if 67 Chevelle side trim was close in size and shape to the stock 66 SD trim.

How rough is rough? You're very lucky to have it at all. Could it be restored. You would be amazed at what some guys can do with a banged up moulding. It's not the same as the chevelle. What ever you decide don't throw the old stuff out!

I just checked the DT stainless web site. It looks like they sell the 66 side trim. You could give them a call.

They are not very rough but some pitting and some small holes they would need anodizing cannot find any one out west to fix them yet.

There are similarities. From what I understand the 66 SD side moulding is much like that of the 67 Chevelle. However, I don't think the Chevelle had the wheel well chrome. As a result, the 66 SD trim was designed with a taper to be tucked under the wheel well chrome, unlike that of the Chevelle. (However, I could be wrong...)

I met a guy at Majestic's Car Show in Regina a few weeks ago. I think he was with Alberta Plating - head office in Calgary, depots in Lethbridge and Medicine Hat. I believe they do restoration work as well as chrome plating.
I have not used them, but having been thinking of pulling my trim off this winter and sending it to them. The guy I met was out of Medicine Hat - if I find his card, I'll pass on the info.
Steve C I tried a search for DT Stainless, but found only a site that provides dairy equipment... could you post a link?
03cts sport '66 Chevelles had the wheel well moldings - but I think you're right that the side moldings on a Chevelle are not the same but I am not sure of exactly what the difference is... I don't think the Chevelles came with the side moldings - items 13, 16 & 17 in the parts manual - did they? Odd that the side trim below the gills on the front fender doesn't appear to have a part number... I have a friend with a '66 SS that is essentially stock. I'll have to park next to him some time and do a comparison and take photos.

Steve Thanks for the link! DT Stainless is worth checking out! Is that someone from this site?
I see a terrific tip on the DT Stainless site stating that the back up light assemblies off a 66 Chevelle are interchangeable with the front signal lights of a 66 Beaumont (with slight modification, which I am guessing has to do with changing from a single element bulb to a two-element bulb).
EDIT - I suspect it must be the '67 Chevelle back up light assembly...

Thank you everyone for your input on trim options. I called DT stainless to day and Im waiting for a return call. I expect a full set of side trim to be somewhat pricy but compared to having the originals restored and chromed, will have to see.
66 chevelles did not have side trim on the body line just the rocker. 67 did and Year One has aluminum ones for around 250.00$. Judging buy the their picture I think they are some what larger in width.
It leads me to believe that it may unfortunately be different from the '66 Beaumont as it's probably not tapered to go under the wheel well trim which doesn't seem to be on the Chevelles shown? Also worth mentioning that the rocker chrome seems to be unique to the Beaumont as well, although the Chevelle chrome will fit.

I agree that the Chevelle side mouldings are not a match for the Beaumont. The mid-body strips are wider than those on the Beaumont (as 1320SD says) and I think the lower rocker trim is ribbed on the Chevelle. They'd work if you wanted the trim but couldn't find originals (or if a place like DT Stainless cannot provide them).
It's odd that the 67 Chevelle brochure almost hides some of the trim. The only place I see the wheel well trim is on the last page in the photo of the Simulated Wire Wheel Covers. The first Chevelle pictured (the yellow one in the sunset) might have the wheel well trim too but it is difficult to tell for sure.

Is the 66 chevelle rocker chrome different than the beaumont? I assumed they were the same. I know the 67 is different than the 66.
After looking at a few more pictures it does look like the 66 chevelle has a slight rib to it and the 66 Beaumont looks flat. I never noticed that before. I thought the 65 beaumont rocker chrome was a needle in a hay stack. It looks like the 66 is as well. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

And I believe the "flat" Chevelle trim that is available is missing the piece behind the (edit:rear) wheel well?...

DT stainless called me back I had a good talk with "Don"about their trim's. For the 66 Beaumont thay have mid body line trim and rockers. For the full kit $ 2195.00 for just the mid $995.00 no doubt the way to go for the perfect look. I think I will have the chrome plater have a look at my original mid trim to see where I stand.

$125 a piece. Not cheap, that's for sure. I wish it was half that price. Stainless steel though... should be the last time those pieces are replaced.

Well after having a local chrome plater assess my side trim it would cost around $850.00 to repair. I think DT stainless pricing is in line.
