Little bit of paint thinner and a rag. Just be careful of the paint around it!

Would Frog tape around it protect the body leaving the tag exposed for cleaning?

I have just used my thumb nail if they haven't sanded it before painting... usually flakes off the stainless tag..

A brand of paint masking tape that is supposed to stop paint bleed. It's advertised for water based household paint use so don't know how it would work with solvent base auto paints. Now, perhaps if you were using water based auto paints.
