I always do. I use roofing tarpaper. It is pretty much identical consistency, thickness etc to the original pieces that come out.

I'm no hockey guy but isn't hockey tape pretty thin? The stuff that is in there is a pretty heavy material, at least the tanks I've pulled off have had a thick strip.

I used them on the Beaumont. Have used tar paper. ( is it still available ? )

I used window setting tape, used on framed windows.
I bought a repro set from Classic Industries. Got a whole roll of tar paper in my shed that never occurred to me to use, just in case anyone needs some!
