I am nearing the completion of my 1971 Lemans sport convertible and need a trunk deck lid, I recently removed the bondo covering the rust and wavy sheet metal on the trunk lid and it needs a lot of work. does any one know of a 1969 to 1972 trunk lid for sale? Preferably near Winnipeg.
The after market has them but they are pricey.

Don't know for sure but I thought trunk lids for 71 GTO's are the same as 1971 Chevelle's, Skylarks ,Cutlass and Monte Carlos ?

Hollander interchange says 70-71 Tempest, Lemans, GTO all use the same lid whether it's sedan, hardtop, convert etc.
I don't know those cars real well but it seems odd that 72 is different?

I checked part numbers for after market Pontiac A body and Chevy a body trunk lids and they are different, they also appear to have slightly different profiles, I am not sure about Oldsmobile or Buick A body trunk lids.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear but the trunk lid does not fit anything but a Pontiac A body.

No kidding? I sure don't doubt you, I know you are familiar with these cars but it's not like Hollander to miss something like that.

Very Interesting, GM did love to share parts among the divisions and use them as often as possible. It makes me wonder if GM had kept their divisions separate and competative if they could have kept the lions share of the luxury car market. When someone buys a luxury touring car or suv now they often buy German or high end Japanese vehicle, they want status and design. In the fifties if you wanted the same thing you picked a Buick, Olds, Caddy or one of the other big three luxury brands. When you bought a Buick you got a Buick drive train, a Buick Designed body. I don't think its a coincidence that when GM became fully committed to rebadging the same platform and power train and sharing it among all their divisions that it was also when customers looked to overseas manufactures to get luxury, design and status.
Am I wrong in my assessment?

Did you find a trunk lid? I would think Carmine in Alberta might have one around. I had a couple but sold them years ago The only ones that will fit will be 70-72 Lemans GTO GT37 will fit.. 68-69 were a beast of their own

Yes I think so, one is in a shed and we will have to wait till the snow is gone and a couple that may have bondo under the paint. I just had my hood and front fenders soda blasted and have enough hammer and dolly work to keep me busy for a month. Then when the snow is gone I will find a trunk lid. I don't understand why people use a inch of body filler rather than knock a dent out, it's no more work in the end if a person does a good job straightening the steel and takes very little work to get it close to straight. Your GTO must be itching to hit the road.

try Golden Leaf Automotive in Toronto. They are Dynacorns Canadian division. They should have a western Canada distributor
