Can someone tell me what the purpose of the hole in this part just off the exhaust manifold is? Did it connect to something? 1965 Acadian 194. do I need it again if Im putting in new exhaust? Sorry for picture quality and orientation.
That looks like a heat stove for the air filter on a 1970s Chevy 250. There would have been a hose going to the air cleaner to bring warm air to the carburetor in cold weather.

Its hard to find a picture, but a hose made of a paper type of material, or a metal pipe, Ive seen both types, would connect to the air filter snorkel on the bottom of the thermostatic valve that can be seen in the pick.

Here's an illustration from the 1975 truck brochure that shows the heat riser pipe under the snorkel of the air cleaner.

So if Im not planning on driving in cold weather then not required?
It wouldnt have been on your car originally. Either it was added to help in the cold weather or the exhaust manifold or engine may have been replaced.
