My 65 Acadian Canso SD

Sorry for the quality of the pics, they are from last summer. The car is dusty, and the engine and trans are out. It's an original SD car. Was a 6 powerglide. I bought it from the original "little old lady" owner (age 74) in 1986.

Dust will wash out. Nice car, Carl. Now get busy and put that engine and tranny back in the car. Cruising seaon is only a few months away. smile

That's a cool 65! It's been a long time since I've seen one around here. I like the wheels.

Thanks. Those are GTO wheels, 65-68 era. I really like them because they are a change from the Chevy rallys. I like those a lot too, but I like being "different".

I pulled the 6 out when I got it in '86. It had oil in the antifreeze, and antifreeze in the oil!!! I had a 427 in it till about 2 years ago. Just a stocker, with a TH350. Now I am going 327 4 speed, but making it look mostly original. I did floor pans last winter, bought a repro 4 speed floor hump, shifter and bought a 65 4 speed console. I "hope" to have it on the road this year, but have many things on the go, so we'll see. The car has 53,000 miles on it now. I bought it in '86 with 43,000 but it was a city car and that is why the floors were bad. Still original doors, trunk lid, hood and quarter panels though. I put front fenders on it in '90 when it was painted. They weren't bad, but at that time, new fenders cost me about $250 each.

I'm adding a Canso skill-testing question to this. Who can spot the rare one-of-none option in this picture? No, it's not the missing steering wheel....

Ding, ding, ding!!! Good answer! I made a set and intalled them about 20 years ago, because of a little known disorder I have we call "option-itis"!!!

Too easy. The next skill testing question will have to be more difficult.

I looked the switches but I did not think that was it, because they were an option on the 65 Beaumont.

Is that why there's no hood?

No, just kidding. This car is pretty stock.

Long ago, I used that switch because I didn't want to cut holes in my dash for a switch.

Hey, welcome here Dan. I was hoping you'd show up. Actually, I was hoping you wouldn't! You put my car to shame with that one, and now I have to put my tail between my legs and sneak home smile.gif

I can't get enough of looking at pics of that car!

Henry,
No roadtrips this year, I have to get the '66 Canso going first. Maybe we'll go fishing instead!
I had the '65 out today, it's been a while. Running great, I'm ordering a new package tray and carpet so I'll have it for the April Tradex show.
Hope we get more Acadian/Beaumonts out there. I'm trying to get Cal to bring the '67 convertible.
Dan

I remember corresponding with you when you were looking at buying that 65 Dan. Remember how you thought it was a lot of money to spend on a car like that??? Still think so??? wink.gif

Now that it's running, I feel a lot better.
Actually, when Henry and I went to pick it up and Henry looked it over and whispered it was a lot better than he thought it would be and it was a great deal eased any reservations I had.
I appreciated your insight into '65 Cansos while I was sorting out the details of the purchase, I know a lot more now about '65's than I did then (I'm more of a '66-'67 guy... or was!).
