I can honestly say I have never seen a header panel rusted through. Good old Ontario (salt) winters. At least it still has the original components. I wish I had the side trim. Mine is all missing.

If you take the firewall and everything your just changing fenders.
That's called 'Firewalling' which carries the same legal consequences as rebodying cars since Vin transfer is the ultimate goal..
If paying someone else to resto the actual car, it's cost may exceed the value of the finished vehicle so it needs to land in the hands of someone who can do it themselves...but at least it's legal and seeing it's an L34 not L35 car makes it more worthy too!.

I guess if you change the roof it's called roofing, I hate roofing!
I really like your car. Should be resurrected but I know , it has to work financially. I have the same issue with my 427 car even though its pretty solid. If I do a frame-off and hire the bodywork out, I am looking at a 80- 100 grand project. If I did that and ebayed the car, it would probably bring 40 or less ?? I guess if you can afford it and you are keeping the car, the price doesnt matter....

well......it is for sale
How much?
Earl, someone has resurrected an old post this is from sprong of 2008, Ron bought the car.
Interesting how it has brought up the whole "rebody" topic again. So what is rebody-change the body from another car-or replace the floors/rockers/doors/fenders/quarter panels/trunk lid, Some burucrats that know nothing about a car dreamed it up to protect Joe public-in bodyshop school we had to cut two collision cars in half and weld the two good parts together-so which V.I.N,. tag would be correct ? With this case is it better to buy a bunch of aftermarket reproduction panels and weld them all together and call it original ? or buy a bunch of southern panels and weld them all together and call it original ? or rebody ?
NCRS allows a restamped engine block to "reproduce" originality, ya right it'll get sold as original !
There was a 68SD396 in Old Autos posted on here was a rebody-I heard a lot of talking it down here-I called about the car later-funny its sold and I'm told a member owns it-power to him ! beats having rusted out welded up pieces.
Thanks Ken. It was sold new here in Ingersoll by the same dealer that sold my old 76 Trans Am new. It was almost in the same shape(rusty) when it pulled it out of the barn last year.
something the dealer was doing ? or lotsa salt over there ? funny some of the best cars I've owned came from London area.
Nice 67 SS396 Chevelle posted in Lambeth-know the car ?
No I don't know that one, but a good friend in the same area of town has a nice ,nice 71 SS 454 Chevelle he's contemplating on selling. Also there is a '70 Hemi Cuda in orig. paint still hiding in the orig. owners garage in Lambeth. No it's not for sale and the list of potential buyers is looonng. I spent much of my youth in the '70's touring the neighbourhoods of London prowling for cars and most people wouldn't believe me about the cars that my buddies and I bought for usually less than $1000. We wouldn't stop for anything less than a SS,RS,Z28 or big block GT Fords. My one bud, a Mopar guy wouldn't even slow down for a measly 383 Road Runner. I got my '69 Hemi Charger for less than $1500.

Oh, I believe you-There was a 67 Hemi Satelite here in 1976 (440 in it) sold for $900 less its wheels-my wife's friend's husband still owns it, there was a 70 hemi cuda black on black low mile orig paint sold here in 1983 at $6000 (consider a ton of money at the time? I remember friend's having no interest in a 396/325 car or automatics, in recent years I can remember an original paint 340 4-speed dart at $10,000 and locating a California 26,000 mile LS6 chevelle for a friend at $25,000 U.S.($34,000 CDN) and getting reemed for telling him to buy it !

As far as I am concerned you would do the next owner a favour by taking a rust free chevelle and plunking the Beaumont super structure in as panel replacement. Your exactly right about cutting it up with repop stuff, after market stuff is junk! I still hate roofing!
