RPO J52 Disc Brake option...

Was the optional J52 standard on all Beaumont SD models in 1968?

No. Disc brakes were an option. In 1969 disc brakes were standard with the RPO Z25 (SS or SD) package. Power brakes were an option.

For 69, would they be the 4 piston caliper set up?

1968 had the four piston caliper. In 69 they went to the single piston type.

67s and 68s both had the 4 piston calipers. I'm not sure how many Beaumonts got them but I read somewhere that only 3% of the 67 and 68 Chevelles had disc brakes. The 4 piston calipers and rotors for them are very hard to find. My car has them. I have 2 extra sets of calipers. 1 set will be installed on the car in the next week or so because the ones on the car are leaking.

I had those 4 piston calipers on a 66 Nova. The setup was from a 67. Boy, do I know what you mean about leaky calipers....

Questions:
a) in 1967 - Disc Brake option...also called RPO J52 (like in 1968) ?
b) as 1967-'68 both used the same 4 piston calipers / are new rotors, still available ?

I got my '67 Disc Brake complete package off a wrecked S/D (out of London, ON), that was freshly restored...decades ago.
- proud owner gave 396-V8 equipped car keys to a friend, one Friday night...for a joy ride
- 1/2 hour later, excessive speed and lost control / Beaumont was totalled, hitting a tree square on

It was even worse on the Corvettes for leaks at all 4 corners! They were tough to bleed also.

I had one of mine stainless-steel sleeved about 20 years ago and it's never leaked since. John Stuart Power Brake in Stoney Creek has quoted me $220 to rebuild & sleeve the other one.

I had heard about the leaky caliper problem and had mine down with the stainless steel inserts.  That was about 20 years ago.  Took them to the shop that did the stainless about 10 years later and he changed one gasket.  All else was fine.

Sorry the shop is no longer.

Consider stainless.   Might cost more but in the long run based on my experience it will pay you back over time.

My 67 Impala is running a 68 Station wagon frame which had the disc brake option as well as the big block.

Yes the SS sleeve option is a great fix for these. Also switch over to synthetic fluid.

 Hmm. Really Earl?

I've heard that the Synthetic (or silicone?) fluid is to be avoided for street use.
