Hi All,

Leeroy is right, I have sen the car on the island reported to be a Cheetah.   Its been a few years but the owner was working on restoring car back to close to original condition.

Interesting to see a '67 Beaumont SD with Buick rims and the Cheetah paw prints on the vent windows.   Also had the Conroy Pontiac plaque.

Haven't seen the car in the last five years or so.

I have a newspaper article on the Panther here somewhere. Of course you can never find it when you want it. Todd i feel your pain. It was in the wheels section a year or so ago.

My Brother-in-law has a 69 Beaumont Cheetah with the Cheetah emblem on the back roof support. The emblem also has the Conroy Dealer logo on it. It was originally Purple with a 350/4sp and a bench seat. He has owned it for at least 35 yrs and hasn't hardly drove the last 25. He plans on restoring when he gets the time.(busy logging and Ranching) I will try and get some pictures to post.He has tried to get more info on the Cheetah but hasn't had much luck either.

The Cheetah was built at Conroy Pontiac. The manager of Conroy was Henry Carmichael, who worked for Conroy in St. Catherines in Ont.There was 46 built over the 3 years onf 66-8, 21 stayed in B.C. and the others shipped to Ont.   8 in 66 7 in 67  and 7 in 68 .  The first on was a 283 and was on display in Conroys glass garage in St. Catherines. ( Conroy was a big supplier of brake drums , roters etc to the factories around the area). Only  one was buld with a 427 which Henry Carmichael raced at Mission.I talked with Henry Carmichael in 1986 at Royal City Pontiac. I have also traveled back to Cardston Alta to talk with Les Mills who worked for Conroys  in the drum factory. These cars were given to the top salesmen in Conroys divisions. I owned a 67 for 13 years and returned (gave)it back to the second owner (first owner had traded it in on a Ford truck as he was transfered to Port Hardy by Finning) Richard has since restored it and my wife and I took it off Vancouver Island for the first time, since it was brought here, to the Sleepy Hollow  Rod Run.

Weyepopping.gifW...welcome Haz!!!

There's a few of us here that've been looking for facts on the Cheetahs and your info sure seems more solid than anything yet..
Do you know if the 427 car was an L72/425 or not?.
Also do you have any info on the 396's installed...L35/325, L34/350 or hopefully some L78/375's!?.
And do you know if Conroy built any BB Acadians?.

Thanks!.

Welcome - so there were two Conroy dealerships, one in St. Kitts and the other in West Van and they were owned by the same person?

The cheetah emblem was in 66-7 on the front fenders where the engine emblem was on the pillar post in 68. The 66 was L78 - 425hp (Dennis Mac Gregor of Port Mc Neil now of Duncan had one) My 67 came from the factory with a 360hp 396, but they did install L78 in them. They had a non race version which had 3.73 gers and race version had scattershield headers and 4.10 gears. The suspension was tricked on both types (different spring ratings in all corners) The Cheetah that Henry ran was an L88-427 and I remember something about it to be a convertable and had cat tracks on it. (I know he blew at least one at 8200 revs as he said there was not much to salvage from it) The rims used on them were the Buick Skylark Ralley wheel.Dennis had a reverbarater for the radio and mine did not but they both had rear window defog.

Ron(haz66),
you are the guy who wrote up similar info in the Canadian classic beaumnot club new letter about 8 years ago.  Very good info.

In the newsletters around that time, there was a photo of a cheetah emblem.  I have had mixed reviews on it, might have just been a "made up" emblem.  The 67 car pictured in a few issues was gold, black top and stripes w/ emblems and the british mirrors and the buick wheels.  Not sure whick member owned the car? ever seen it? whats its history? is it a fake or real?
Maybe you have more info to go on.

There is a guy named Ron Stewart too.goes by "ronsrods".  he is a mmber on here too.  owns one.

It seems like everyone that knows about cheetahs, have very different ideas about them such as #s produced, colors, engines, years built, etc, etc.
Hope you can all pull some hard info together.

It is certainly an interesting car with interesting history.

I was told theres a black on black 66 Cheetah in Winnipeg, was for sale in the early 1990's for $6500 had an M22 tranny in the trunk and modified big block under the hood, sitting in a barn requiring restoration, I tried many times to track the car-no luck, but someone who lives there may have better luck, the guy who told me of the car worked at the library can't remember the name, not much to go on but hey you never know

I remember a triple black SD bigblock ht pulling into the pony coral on a sunday about 12-13 years ago.  loaded with options.  i always look back and question if it was a cheetah or not.  I was only about 18 at the time, only saw the car once.  it was nice though, not a barn car.

I still have an original emblem that is made into a belt buckle. The ones on the car are a remake from pictures of it.If I ever get finished moving and can figure how to send pictures on thi thing I will do that.
