I'm slowly making some progress on the Laurentian. The brakes are finally bled. Next on the to-do list is to pull the gas tank and send it out for cleaning and epoxy lining. I also have to figure out why the gas guage isn't working. I suspect the sending unit. Next, a dual exhaust is getting installed. I'm keeping the manifolds and going with a stock dual system (louder mufflers though) as I'm not sure what my furture powertrain plans are. The NOS grille emblem I won on ebay arrived. Sweet!:
I installed it this morning(notice my "new" crack free nose!):
The car is on my "poor mans hoist" (4 ramps):
I couldn't resist and had to install my center caps:
I like!
I'm amazed at how solid this car is. I snapped a photo of the floors this morning:
Still LOTS of detailing to do. The engine compartment is decent but there's LOTS of room for improvement:
As you can see, the metal stove pipe from the air cleaner to the exhaust manifold is missing. If anyone has a spare kicking around they could part with let me know. I have an Edelbrock performer that I want to install at some point. I'm going to need a 4bbl air cleaner too. Anyone? All the hoses are getting replaced. The heater hoses are rock hard. I'm going to back flush the cooling system at the same time. I did a drain/refill when I bought the car but it still looks quite dirty. My carpet, drivers arm rest and rear seat upholstery has arrived from NOS reproductions. The front upholstery is on back order. It'll likely be a couple of months before I tackle that project! I want to get the mechanics sorted out first. Todd
The car was sold new in Welland. The car was stripped and refinished in 1978 and put into storage. The car had many NOS parts installed in 1978 (bumpers, grille, lenses, weatherstrips etc) and the owner bought the 427 emblems and installed them at the time. The car came orig with a 350. Who knows what may end up in the engine bay in the future though...
Heres the link to the thread I posted with some original photos of the car: CLICK HERE
I was looking at your valve covers, other than the fact that they are too small I have upstairs in my garage the original z28 valve covers off my 69 With a little TLC they would llok dynamite...
The garage is 20x32. They are never big enough! I bought it from Future Steel They gave me a screaming deal on a garage that someone ordered but never took delivery of. It took 3 of us 5 days to put up.
I used spray in insulation which does a great job keeping the garage warm. I also run a Schwank radiant natural gas heater. I love my garage!! Carl: Are those finned aluminum valve covers? Todd
Dang! Is that sweet! M father-in-laws garage is about 22 x 24. My Borther in-law has a similar size garage. All I got is 19 x 20. and the car is 17.5' long! LOL
I had a 20X15 garage at my last house. No heat or insulation. My cars would hibernate for the winter. This house had a similar sized garage. We converted it to living space for my ailing in-laws. I'd go nuts without some sort of garage so I bit the bullet and built this one. Hardest part was fighting with the Upper Thames Conservation Authority. Since there is a creek about 50 feet behind my property they were sure I was on a flood plane. I had to hire an engineer to prove I wasn't. Money tossed out the window!!!! Todd
I keep hoping to win the lottery, buy the house behind me, flatten it and build a 2 story 4 bay shop. Ahhh, dreaming....... Nice valve covers. They'd look sweet on my 327, but I just got new engine chrome this past fall from CT. They took down that plastic engine and tossed the chrome parts in the clearance bin. Got about $120 worth of stuff for $27. And I was looking for a 14" air cleaner base, just got a 14x4 K&N plus the K&N top for my 327, but tossed out the base with the old filter and rusty chrome lid, back in Winnipeg. Any one want to give me $1,000,000 so I can do that? I'll let you work in the shop!!!!
