For decades, the cars assembled in South Africa had been close copies of models current in the USA. Most were adapted to right hand drive and engine choice was more limited, whereas other General Motors brands made up a complete range of cars from the humble British-sourced Vauxhall to the fully imported (and heavily taxed) Cadillac Fleetwood. In between were sandwiched various Opel, Holden and Pontiac models as well as an oddly named Canadian car, the Acadian Beaumont. That was in 1967.
