Just back from visiting relatives in YK. Feels positively balmy here now. Had a nightime low of -36. Here's a shot from the front window of their condo. Love aircraft, so I spent some good time watching the comings and goings of Tindi's frozen float base. Those twin Otters really truly a northern workhorse. They rarely sat still.
Yellowknife from pilots monument hill.
The Yellowknife to Detah ice road. About 6 kilometers long.
On the ice road. They keep it clear. Flood and scrape it often. Notice the grooves.
A meter or so thick. I think? Neat looking down through the ice.
The Ravens are huge! You have to clean up after them...
Out for a run. -20. Too cold to stay out long for southern folk.
A early shot of some pins my daughter traded and collected. She eventually got over 100!
You really had a good taste of the north! 6 months on Ellesmere.
No way Steve was that picture of you sunning taken "after the dip". Don't ask how I suspect it wasn't.
Did you spend much time in the tracked vehicles, I saw these two Hagglund machines drive in and park just outside where we were staying. Pretty cool machines.

A buddy of mine went up and drove the Ice Roads for a couple years, Haven't called him this year, he may be there again. The country looks beautiful up there, but COLD! He says them Ravens will land on the trucks as there driving to beg for food. He has a pic of one sitting on the hood of his rig, eating a sandwich
