new to restoring

well I am about to start restoring a 1950 Pontiac 4 Door Fleetleader torpedo back with a straight 6, I have lots of new parts, and so far have just put new rubber on it, plans for this year once I get the new garage built and my new 8000# lift system installed is to replace the gas tank, brake system fuel lines and a general degreasing of the motor, then I will see at that point if it will run. I have the interior stripped out and done some repairs to the floor, so hopefully with new soundproofing and carpets, with some original seat covers I might get it out by fall  when I figure out how to load pictures I will let you see what I got

later Bill

Sounds like you're doing about the same thing I did with a 54 Chevy I owned last year. I REALLY enjoyed working on this car. Simplicity at it's best! Looking forward to photos.

Todd the undercarrage is in great shape, still has 95% of its original undercoating, there was a couple of spots by the body mounts that required repair, and a few minor pinholes in the floor, but definately a good starting base for sure, hopefully this year I will see some progress if I ever get my garage built, already bout the four post lift, so now I need the garage to put it in (lol)

Nice torpedo back Pontiac. Are you going to restore it to original ? You do not see the torpedo back cars very often. I looked at a 1949 Oldsmobile 2 dr torpedo back last week and it was the first I had ever seen.it had a flat head six.

"Living the Low Life" is a show on Speed TV about the low rider culture. It's a good watch-especally with Vida! I'm not much into the late low riders even though I do admire the quality of workmanship. I do, however LOVE the bombs (pre '54 Lowriders)

well started redoing the spare 53 flathead to replace the orig that I could not get running, managed to destroy the harmonic balancer, thought it was sparate from the pully, WRONG finished up ruining it, and grinding through the broken cast iron pully to get if off, half hour later we were reading the book DO NOT DISSASEMBLE Replace as unit, but there was nowhere in my book that gave me a part # or model, so can anybody point me in the proper direction to find a replacement. the rebuild will not be a full teardown just making sure that all the valvetrain is free and working and replacing some gaskets, will be pulling the oil pan tommorrow to check out the bottom end. will rob parts off the 50 like starter, generator and carb as well as some brackets. Also what holds the distributer in as there was nothing left on the engine block at the distributor entry point and where can I find the distributor gear, as the new one I bought years ago did not have one installed

thanks in advance for your suggestions
