ANYONE THERE TO HELP ME WITH THIS QUESTION, I AM DOING A BRAKE CONVERSION ON A 64 IMPALA - SINGLE MASTER CYLINDER TO DUAL MASTER CYLINDER DRUM BRAKES. DO I NEED A PROPRTIONING VALVE ( DISTRIBUTION BLOCK) FOR THIS JOB?
But from what I do know, below the master, you have a 3 outlet distribution block, spliting the single master out to the front and rear.
I'd go with Inline Tube's 65-66 "B" body single to dual master conversion block. It should keep your rear and front lines line intact. Two lines in, in place of the single systems one. Simple! They list one for the 64', but is says "Call".
No proportioning is required on drum/drum.
You could also use a 67-70 Impala/Big Canadian Drum/Drum - Disc/Drum distrubution block (they're the same). You'd have to adapt the rear 1/4 outlet down to your 3/16 rear line (easy) and your front lines would have to be bent and moved to meet the front outlets, but it would work. And you'd have a failure switch.
I have a couple sitting around if you need one.
Cheers, Mark.

If you do plan on going to front disks in the future, these guys have brackets available to put late model rotors and calipers on your stock spindles......
Hi Lowfen, new member. I have a 63 Strato tudor post. I just did the conversion this past summer. I did not use a proportioning valve. It is not needed on a four wheel drum system. Also with the newer style dual master cylinder I also did not install an/any RESIDUAL CHECK VALVE in the system, as the master cylinder already as a resiual in the out port to maintain line pressure. Hope this helps Dale
I bought a kit at "back to the Fifties" last year, and it came with the proportioning valve. I have talked to a few people, and they tell me to use it if I use the power booster.
