Todays superbugs require super antibiotics?

After a week of feeling like someone is standing on my chest, I stopped into my doctors office yesterday to book an appointment. He is located about 30 miles from here and I happened to be in the area. I actually got in right away (I have a fantastic doc) and he diagnosed bronchitis. Lots of that going around. He prescribed an antiboitic. 1000mg daily! These things are knocking the s... out of me- dizzy, nausea, headache. Wicked stuff! I think the cough was better than the cure! Whatever happend to the good old banana flavoured penicilin we had as kids? These new strains must require more potent antibiotics. I haven't had an antibiotic in about 12 years. Never had one this strong dead.gif

Anyone else have similar experiences?

Have been taking a flu shot since they started and if I do get sick it is not a knock you down strain. Touch wood, never got sick this winter. On the other hand lots of sick days at the office, one co-worker was down for 7 days, just came back Monday.

Remember when I was sick, was that way back in Feb? I'm still sporting the cough from that episode, speaking of superbugs...

I've been pretty lucky. I think I owe it to my wifes cooking. She makes everything from scratch using wholesome ingredients. We also have a juicer which my wife uses to make a V8 type vegetable drink. One glass a day is all I take and I haven't had a bad cold in 3 years. I think the bronchitis would be a lot worse if I wasn't taking it.

I have been getting a flu shot annually as well since they started giving them out and knock on wood, I have not had the flu since then which is pretty miraculous considering I ride that germ infested thing called the subway each day.

I haven't even had a really bad cold the last couple of winters.  To that I give credit to at least one good belt of single malt each week to kill any bacteria that may be lingering around.  If you ever get a sore throat, forget those so-called cold remedies.  Gargle with some good single malt mixed with a little salt and your sore throat will be cured!
