Air Cleaner sizes

What is the ideal size for an open element air filter? I need a filter for the BeauCamino.

I was thinking 14 x 3 K and N 66-3040?

I once read that the optimum flow and most power for a small block 350 Chevy was achieved with a 14" x 3" air filter. This was the size used by the factory for the performance 350's. The filter is originally AC Delco PN #A212CWC now cross referenced to #729891 used in the Camaro Z28, LT-1, L48 and L82 Corvettes and all 14" GM Performance Parts Air Cleaners. I picked up two at Golden Mile Chev before they temporarily ceased operations this past year.

65 Camino, you know I am not a fan of the K&N filters, great marketing but many tests will show a OEM AC Delco outflowing them. Even at the dealer the AC was $12.00. Save your $160 for something substantive that the car needs.

Our '69 427 car came with the 14 x 3 filter and it didn't seem to hold the car back. Anything taller wouldn't fit under the hood anyway.  I picked up a few extra filters from my local GM dealer last year when there was talk about the filters being discontinued.  They now come plastic wrapped and squished into every shape but round.

I have the same K&N also and love it, I could have found it a little cheaper on ebay, but I wanted a valid warranty so I got it at here. K&N 66-3040, or you can try one of the vendors on the forum here, you can usually find a good deal that way as well. This was very easy to install and I love it. good luck :)
