Don't sit near the window!

My son, wife and I decided to go for ice cream at our favorite place in Woodstock tonight. It's a Dairy Queen type place, only much cheaper with better ice cream. Anyway, we are inside waiting to get our ice cream. My son and I got ours and we were waiting for my wife to get hers. This place has an eat-in area. We usually sit near at the tables next to the window. The lady just hands my wife her ice cream cone when I hear one helluva BANG. I turn around to find a car driving right into the building! Glass flew everywhere. At first I thought the car had caugh fire because of all the smoke, but in fact it was from the tires spinning. The driver, a woman in her early 60's had the gas pedal right to the floor! She finally clued in and took her foot off the gas. It was the grace of God no one was hurt. My son and I were about 5 feet away from where the car came in. The bricks under the window were damaged as well. Three large plate windows had shattered. I can't believe we weren't hit by glass. There were two other ladies with a small (2-3 year old boy) He was running around in the area the car hit only a minute or so prior. His mom had gone over and picked him up. We were all pretty shaken up. My son handled it well but said his legs were still jelly when we got home. I'm going to keep an eye on him. Sometimes these types of incidences don't hit you until after several hours. It's the "what if
's" that freak me out. What if we were sitting there? What if.. Every table except where those ladies and that young boy was damaged and tipped over.
I'm counting my blessings tonight!

Wow! Times like that make you want to give everyone in your family a hug.

Glad to hear it all worked out for the best Todd.

Your incident has brought up a bad time for me.My mother had my son in her car and hit the gas instead of the brake and made a drive thru of my garage. Both were OK ,but shaken up.My son still brings it up every once in awhile and it's been over a year.

Wow! Glad no one was hurt there! I guess it happens more often than we think. It happend at the GM dealer I worked at about 2 years ago. An old fellow backed into our service entrance. The glass in the door exploded. Again, it was pure luck no one was nearby when that happened. Are these folks two foot drivers?? How else could you get the gas and brake confused?

My mother is not a two foot driver. She thought she was pressing on the brake and since the car wasn't stopping. She continued to press harder on the gas pedal.Even when the car had stopped, she still had her foot to the floor doing a burnout.I think in her case, she thought she was on the brake and didn't realize her mistake in the seconds that it took place.I guess people don't think when they panic.

That's exactly the same thing this lady did. The building filled up with tire smoke from her spinning the tires.
