65Camino just bought me a Rally gauge cluster on eBay for the LeMans, what a friend! It is a fairly rare piece too and it looks pretty nice, $80. I owe him about 200 bucks now for various car parts he's picked up for me!
When did I say I was giving it to you 73SC? I am saving it for my next project. Although I might trade it for a certain dual snorkel air cleaner you have...
I knew it would make you happy Astro-Jet! When it arrives I'll let you know BUT I'm still keeping the 160 MPH speedo!!
BTW, I'm still interested in a period correct Qudrajet too.

I'm pretty sure I have a 7043212, at least it is on the list I started to make of my inventory, now I just have to find it! It is either in that big pile in the corner of the garage or that big pile in the corner of the basement. Hmmm, which to attack first?

Cluster has arrived, now all we need to do is figure out how to wire it. It has no evidence of a AMPS light or guage either. A few question marks on this one?
Spent some of the day researching the cluster and posting on two other forums, Performance Years and A body. Seems like this is most likely a 1974 cluster for the LeMans line. Good news is by all accounts the harness for the trouble light cluster and rally cluster are the same except for an additional two wire harness for the tach in the rally cluster BUT the tach harness plug and 4 inches of wire came with the cluster. I have compared the circuit boards and traced the circuits and they do match up, just take different routes. I also need a new oil sending unit, supposed to be $15.
Sorry Todd, for me it looks like a straight swap. Remember to always lower the column when taking out the cluster, I learned the hard way like you.
We will keep you posted on this, hope it all works out.
So we popped the cluster in. It looks really nice. Needs some fine tuning though.
All of those links show the circuit boards as a straight swap BUT my lights don't come on. On investigation I see that my oringinal board is 7 circuits down the left side and 7 down the right, the Rally cluster is 7 & 8. When I check the link the standard LeMans is shown as 7 & 8 for a direct plug and play BUT wait a minute I have a Canadian car so my harness is different, probably more like a Chevelle.
Everything else is fine but no lights at night. The tach is a little wonky too plus it seems to be a Firebird tach with a 5000 redline and no AMPs readout. LeMans tachs had a 5700 red line with 8000 limit and a GEN light in the face.
Gas gauge works better than the original though!
SO, I went on eBay and for Petes sake there is another GTO cluster, so I bought it, it has the right tach. When it comes I'll get back on the project, for now no night driving, LOL! I know how to fix the lights, direct wire to switch but I'll live with it for now. This could be a winter project ! The pic is of the right LeMans tach.
All is well with Project Rally Cluster. Here is what I found. The original Oshawa circuit board had 14 circuits and the Rally cluster had 15. The one I was missing powered the cluster lights. Oshawa harness had cluster lights in #2 position while rally cluster had seat belt warning there. Rally cluster had cluster lights in #16 spot and I had no #16 at all.
All I did was make a short jumper wire from my harness #2 over to Rally cluster #16 and presto. Cluster lights up nicely and the seat belt warning still works too. Changed out the tach for the 8000 rpm unit and it seems to work fine as well.
65Camino came by and while I was working on the dash he put in the new senders, Oil and Temp. Buttoned it all up and it is working fine. The photo shows the car at idle, Oil pressure about 40 psi, Temp about 180 and idle speed 600 rpm, fuel gauge reads just under 1/2 tank which is correct.
I just got a post from A Body. There is a Canadian circuit board that fits the cluster from 74 to 77 so that explains the difference. Mine is working with teh small jumper wire so I won't be searching too hard for that PN, but it is nice to know.
