I've looked online for production numbers with regards to 1982 Firebirds/Trans Ams. Now all of these cars were built in the U.S. and shipped up here. Do the U.S. production numbers reflect what was exported too? I tried GM Canada but nothing yet. I wondered if anyone knew where this info might be. My thinking is anyone with a Pontiac of this era might want the info but where is it?
If your car is a Canadian export model GM of Canada Vintage Vehicle Service will know how many were made for sale in Canada. if it is US then you have to Contact Pontiac Historical Services.
I found this chart pretty easy though. Shows Trans Am as a high production vehicle for 82. If you want rare start looking for a 86 SE or maybe a 92 GTA.
That's the chart i've seen. It is a car specifically for the Canadian market. Kilometers are the main numbers on it. I'm trying to find out how many total Firebirds, specifically Trans Ams came to Canada in 82. Mine is one of 274 with the 305 Crossfire Injection so i want to know just how rare it is. It also has the T-tops. The car has all the options on it, including power driver seat and rear window wiper. It's not a WS6 car since it hasn't got disc brakes all the way around, which makes it as far as i can tell a "WS7". And it's not a Recaro car as it has the standard PMD seats. I've email GM Canada again, hopefully they can shed some light on the overall numbers. That way i can determine how rare this car might be.

I haven't spoken w/ Geo. Z. for a while but believe the last time I did he told me GM Canada Vintage Services now has almost all microfilm for '77 model year and newer F-Body cars!.
As previous you can still get the PHS docs for Pontiacs but if a '77 and newer F-Body Poncho or Chevy, GM Canada has their own microfilm and docs available too!.
To clarify, Yes...F' Bird and Camaro docs for both Canadian AND U.S. built or delivered '77 and newer cars!.

Last year i paid to get the package giving me all the history on the car. I didn't know they had microfilm. Looking at the paperwork again it says 4332 imported to Canada, but is that all Firebirds or just Trans Ams? Mine is 1 of 2392 with T tops, and 1 of 274 with the Crossfire engine. I'm thinking more than 4000 had to have come to Canada, from base models up to the T/A.
The documentation generally indicates "4,332 of the same model", it's been years since I owned a Firebird but the model is something like "F87" and each model name has it's own F number, Esprit, Formula, SE, Trans AM, GTA.
So from what you tell me there were 4,332 Trans Ams for Canada. That is about right because my experience over a long time shows Canadian volume to be about 10 % or a little less of US production. So Overall there were probably 12,000 or so Firebirds of all descriptions for Canada in 1982.
That makes sense to me. You'd figure more than 4300 Firebirds would come to Canada, but if it was the Trans Am alone, i can see that based on the U.S. numbers. I wrote back to GM showing the chart posted, just the 1982 numbers. It would be great if the same kind of info could be made available for Canadian owners. If i get it i know i'll be posting it for anyone who's interested on the info. I've seen lots of Crossfire cars from the U.S. but ours are just that little bit more special due to lower numbers. I've always liked the oddball stuff like that, no matter what the car might be.
By model GM means Firebird SE, Firebird Formula, Firebird Trans Am etc... Each of those is a model, so that's how they break it out usually. 4,322 Trans Ams, 12,000 or so Firebirds of all descriptions. Trans Ams about 45% % of production for all Firebird models. You car is neat becasuse it is the first year of that generation and the top engine available...a keeper!
