Random Question here but in regards to 66' Beaumonts Could you get a 396 car without having the L34 on the tag?

My guess is no but I can't prove it. I suspect it has to do with the frame mounts being different.

I would agree with Carl, "no." The Cowl Tag had information of particular interest to Fisher Body in preparing it to be sent down through "the hole in the wall" to the assembly plant where the body drop and remaining assembly would happen. The cowl tag would flag the car body as requiring some sort of deviation from standard prep. Fisher Body would paint the body, install glass, prep the body hole near the firewall / tunnel to accept a speedometer cable (the transmission choice would determine which hole was used and which one was plugged).  All 1966 Beaumonts with big blocks would have L34 on the tag, as well as the transmission choice. If the car had an L30 327 it would not say L30 however, presumably because for installation & prep it was identical to the standard base 283 V8 in that regard. Same thing regarding radios, you wouldn't see it say "U63" even if it did come with a factory radio; however for a car with a power rear antenna it would say "U75" because Fisher Body had some work to do in order to rough it in prior to final assembly. Final assembly would also install the front clip, which was painted separately. Sometimes people see an original paint car with a slight mismatch on the front clip and think it had collision work; actually it is because the front clip was painted off the car body and the spray pattern technique may have varied slightly or even the paint batch might have been from a different point in the rail car full of paint. GM ain't gonna shake a whole rail car full of paint and therefore it might have settled out some, causing subtle variations in paint colour at different points in the same batch.

Hi
I'm new here I just picked up a 1965 beaumont sport deluxe rag top, I was looking here for the vin decode but can't find my vin it starts with a 7 . By the info I see here it should start with a 5 meaning the year?? Is that correct ? It can't be a 67 looks like a 65. The number on the firewall starts with a 7 also 73767 ( fire wall tag )

Thanks

A 65 Beaumont Sport Deluxe convertible is a model 73767 when it came with a 6 cylinder engine or a model 73867 when it came with a V8.
Post all the numbers off the data tag on the firewall and we'll decipher them for you.
Your VIN tag ( chassis serial plate ) is located on the left hand ( drivers side ) front hinge pillar above the lower hinge. (Open the drivers door and look between the hinges) It will start with a 5 and then the model number, in your case 73767. Then followed by a O and 5 numbers which are the consecutive build numbers.

Welcome aboard and it looks like you're very close to the new home of CP. And another important thing is we need pictures, pictures and more pictures.

Your VIN tag on the door jamb should read 573767OXXXXX from what I see of your cowl tag. The cowl tag does indeed show a 6 cylinder Sport Deluxe convertible.

5 = 1965
737 = Beaumont Sport Deluxe 6 cylinder
67 = convertible
0 = Oshawa production plant
XXXXX is the sequential VIN number

Your call when it's your car. Pretty rare car, that's for sure. My two cents would be to make it look as original as possible no matter what you do. And my other two cents on it would be to put a nice little 283 or better yet, a 327, all the while keeping it looking completely original.

Probably either "Member's Rides" or "General Beaumont Forum" would be the best place to show it off.

 Since it is a 73767 model then yes it is one of only 133 built. Impossible to say for certain are left as there may be an unregistered car or 3 in someone's garage or back 40.

Convertibles with the fully boxed frames are more susceptible to frame rot. Check it carefully. My welding guy repaired the boxed frame on his 67 GTO convertible when he did a frame-off. It took a lot of brazing & grinding but he saved the frame. His GTO was imported from the U.S. as a new car and sold new at Gus Brown Pontiac in Whitby.

Posted elsewhere by member "graytoad". I added this to the numbers.

"I have a 64 Acadian Beaumont custom wagon model #8535 and I have the GM Canada documents showing production of 251 of these 8 cyl, 4 door, 6 seat wagons.  Not sure WHO is tracking this info but I have attached my documentation here for that tracking sheet.  Also I am wondering if any one has ever approached GM Canada and asked if they could supply to total production numbers for all the Acadian/Beaumont models from 1962 thru 1971?"

For 1966 Beaumont's, it states.

"73667 Beaumont Custom 8 cyl Convertible (565 produced)confirmed

(57 Sport deluxes)"

I'm wondering where the number "57 SD Verts" comes from, is that the number registered on this site?

Thanks

I think that's a number that someone got when they documented their 66 SD with GM Vintage Services. We encourage members to share any info like that off their documentation.

OK, it's my belief the number is probably incorrect.

I have a 1966 Beaumont SD & I recently got my documentation. I asked George Zapora if there is anyway he could determine the number of SD's built & his reply is shown below. So I think the number of SD's in 66 is unknown.

My Question to George: I'm wondering if there is any way you can provide info on how many 1966 Beaumont Customs Model# 73617 were equipped with the A51 Sport Option?

 "On the A51 question, unfortunately it is not tracked to a single model in a way that makes any sense, so the short answer is no.

That is certainly possible. They have recanted statements regarding a number of things about production that they printed on their documentation years back.

What are your thoughts about what the actual number could be?
