Yes, that would be a guaranteed fit then. As far as I have seen, there was never a dual bolt pattern (Chev and BOP both) bolt pattern made for TH400 was there? Some of the other trannys, yes, but never TH400.
Also, is it for sure a TH400? Some of the later 70's cars may have had TH350 I think.

Uncommon but they did make the dual bolt pattern Chevy/BOP Turbo 400's.. I saw a loose one in the boneyard once and have always regretted not putting the grab on it..
On the '79 Trans-Am's, I think Carl is right and Turbo 400's disappeared when the Cat-Converters came in for '75 and Turbo 350's from there on so if the one you're looking at is a 400, it's not original to the car..
A chum had a '79 T/A stick car new and I think when you ordered a stick you got the Pontiac 400 and if an auto it was the Oldsie 403?.
