I removed my vinyl roof this morning and was pleased to find hardly any rust underneath, it only took me a little over an hour, the worst was removing the rear window trims, what is the best tool for that ? I didn't find any X by the rear window pillar.
NAPA carries a tool made especially for removing the window trim. Im sure their are numerous other places but thats where I got mine. Keep us posted onyour progress, I love the 70-72 body style.

455GTO was telling me that Lemans/GTO...that got Vinyl roof had flaws with their roofs to begin with and so they mark an X to differentiate them from the good ones, I guess where the roof weld meets the top of the quarter panel, I think they used lead back then to do the smooth body work ??? I am not going to put a vinyl roof back on, I don't like them, the car is going back to gold with a black GT stripe...more of a sporty look. I didn't find the removing tool at Princess auto and also asked for it, I am sure Rondex would have one of these, works better than a flap tip screwdriver.
I missed out on this somehow. What is the mysterious X?
I heard when hardtops came down the line in Oshawa and if the 1/4 panel seam by the roof wasn't good. They marked the car with an X and gave it a vinyl top. I have seen when a guy pulled his roof back there was an X there. So I thought it may be true. That's why I asked Pascal to see if he had an X.
NAPA does indeed sell the proper tool and they are not expensive. Canadian Tire probably also has them I would think. If all else fails, stop the Mac Tools or Snap On truck and get one from them.. The tool may be a bit more money but I have always found that you get what you pay for when it comes to tools. I bought mine from the local NAPA twenty years ago and I still have it and it has really seen it's fair share of use over the years. Good luck.

That was Wagners that told me that Kim.... Because when I met him at Tiger run , he was saying how nice my Judge was and I told him it had a vinyl roof on it and when I did the restoration I pulled it off and there was a yellow X on the drivers side by the rear quarter panel roof seam.. So he said if a car was ordered without one and went down the line and the seam was not good enough then an X was put there and it ment that a vinyl roof was put on it...
