1955 Ford Customline - new price - $6,800 or trade

1955 Ford Customline. South Dakota car. Original Raven Black with blue guts. The car has been painted once.

This car does not have the original 223 c.i. inline 6 but everything else is original. It still has the original glass bowl Holley and glass bowl fuel pump. 3 speed automatic. It has all the factroy add on chrome at the vents, ahead of the rear wheels and has reverse lights.

The car runs well but there is a broken skirt on one piston so it has a knock that has got no worse in the past 4200 miles (3 years). A friend of mine said it will sound like that for the next 50 years and won't get any worse. The transmission shifts well and no slip. The body is very solid, has some filler in the bottom of the front fenders and that seems to be about it. There are some rust holes at the bottom front of the left door and 3 spots in the rocker directly below that. All the wheels lips are solid with no rust issue but the rears were folded in for tire clearance. The rims are early Keystone 15" rear and 14" front, and yes belted tires. H78-15, C78-14.
This car is originally had a 6 volt electric system that has been changed to 12 volt for start and lights. The original radio and clock are not working.
The interior is all there except the headliner (bows are there) and has been OK as my driver.
Good solid project for someone. I would prefer to trade for another solid GM driver but will sell it outright. I don't have to sell this car and don't mind keeping it. This car is a lot of fun for me and I do drive it anywhere.

I would really prefer to trade so I don't get hit so hard with the market down. I would trade up or down for the right car. I am into this car for $8200 the way it sits. I had an offer of $7500 this past summer at Waterdown and was asking $8500. Maybe that is all the market will bear.
We'll see what next summer brings. Maybe it will have a 390 and a straight axle in it by then.

Hi Brad, nice 55. I had a couple of 56's in my mis-spent youth back in the early '70's and I don't think they were as solid as yours looks. the salt used to eat the front fenders right off of them!

Hi Earl
This car was off the road in 1976 until 2004 and does not have any rust issues. In some peoples opinion it needs painted but not mine. The paint is worn through in spots, there are some scratches and small dents but it all adds to the character. I have had this car at quite a few cruise nights and shows and it is really amazing how people will walk right past a fully restored car and look at the 55.
What throws a lot of people off is the I-6 emblem on the front fender. Only the US cars got the inline 6 so you don't see many here in Canada. The Customline was also the base car in 55 so many of them became donors for the Crown Vics and Fairlanes. Surprisingly this one survived completely intact.

I wish I had the money , I would buy it of you. I love it biggrin.gif. I always liked the 55 an 56 ford. My first car I every had was a 55 four door with I think the 292 V8. I am glad you posted a pic of it any way.  (maybe if I win the Lottery tonight).

Yeah, I love it too, Brad. When I was a kid, my uncle had an assortment of 1955 - 1956 Ford Crown Victoria's so I have a soft spot for 'em as well. It looks great as is and that is how it should stay. Nice old school cruiser!

Brad, what does the faded lettering on the trunk spell out?  - looks like the same on the top of the air cleaner?

Did you ever sell this car?

Dave

Brad hasn't been on for quite a while. I think it says "Velvet's Speed Shop"

Thanks for the update, Todd.

Is (was) Velvet's Speed Shop a local place in Ontario somewhere?

Dave
