TV Sucks (or) What was your favorite TV show in the 60's, 70's or 80's?

I'm sitting here surfing the web and flipping through 80 some-odd channels and you know what? TV sucks. Nothing but crap on TV- even Speed seems to suck any more. It seems like Pinks is always on. It's ok in small doses but...

I borrowed the first season of Starsky and Hutch from my sister and watched an episode the other night. Remember when you looked forward to watching shows like this? Sure they were sometimes corny but they had their own brand of personality. We were "blessed" with cable when I was a kid and we always seemed to find something decent on one of those 13 channels. Even Cartoons suck these days (I do like family guy but it's not for kids!)

What were your favorite TV shows back in the good old days of TV?

I liked all those cop shows-
Starsky and Hutch
Columbo
McCloud
SWAT
The Rookies
Mod Squad

And there were great comedies:
All in the Family
Threes Company
MASH
Seinfeld

I told my wife we should just cancel cable and buy full seasons of our favorite shows on DVD. I can get all my news (world and local)  and old car info online so I could live without Speed as well.

I wish you could just pick the channels you really watch. The technology is there but Rogers wouldn't want people only buying 5 or 6 of them. If I could, I'd keep

Speed
Discovery
CNN
BBC
History
TMC
And maybe Spike for the Sunday car shows.

Ah, thanks for reminding me about Adam 12. That was my dads favorite show. I'll have to pick that one up on DVD. I still remember the episode where they picked up a kid "whacked out on codeine". Ahh, a simpler time..

I also liked Emergency. And don't tell anyone but we bought the first season of the Flintstones!

My parents were also big fans of Dallas.I remember J.R calling Sue-Ellen a sl*t. I didn't know what it meant and I called a girl the same thing at school the next day. Boy, did I get in crap!

My wife and I are Trek fans (not enough to go to the conventions or anything too geeky). We have the complete original series on DVD. I also liked Next Generation and pondered buying it on DVD but it's expensive..

How about:

The Man from Uncle

And you can't forget Wide World of Sports. The first televised NASCAR races. I love watching the re-runs of these early 70's races.

A few of my favorites;

Dragnet
Mod Squad
Green Acres (Uncle Joe is still Da Man)
Mission: Impossible
Addams Family
Lost in Space
Leave it To Beaver.

TV just ain't what it use to be. But then again, what is?

First, allow me to rant....

We had cable till we moved to the farm 15 years ago. Our TV was ALWAYS on then. Our son was born a year later and I didn't want to be raising our kids on TV. My wife and I had serious TV detox, to say the least. It took a couple of years to cut the habit.

No lie, other than when we are somewhere else and the TV is on (friends, hotel, lunchroom at work) I have turned on the TV exactly once to watch it in 2008.  I now am a firm hater of TV because there is nothing on worth watching since we don't have pay TV.

By the way, you guys named pretty much all my favorite shows from when I was a kid except for Dynasty and it's not hard to figure out why a teenager loved that show.......
