Have a friend that is looking for a pair of BBC cylinder heads. Turns out his Pair will not work with his 396 motor. He needs a set with a casting number ending in "820" (820 is suppose to be 67-72 chevelle/monte 396/402) Any condition/rebuildable PM me if you know of any

MY BEAUMONT HAS 4 STUDDED TIRES AND 2 BLOCKHEATERS......AND LOTS OF OIL UNDERNEATH. The other one has a longer roof.
I have a set of heads off of a 69 CDN Pontiac 427 that are fairly badly rusted but likely rebuildable. I know they are the same casting # as my 67 CDN Pontiac 396 but.... not certain what that casting # is. I know the history of the engine so there should be no worries of cracks.
I'll check for you.
Gary

820 are from low hp 1971 bb What is the casting number of the heads that will not work for him and the casting number of his engine block
. If he is looking to make hp , 840 would be the way to go.
he should be able to use 781s or 049s on there as well, they are a very good stock 454 head that can make good power... 820s arent too bad at all either, both are open chamber castings, but the 820 is half way to closed cc #. I think there was a set of 781s in the latest buy and sell... chris, your peanuts should be good for 400-500+ hp if they are worked, they are typically better for lower rpm than the larger oval port heads (i.e. 5000rpm for a pp head) Gary your heads are probably closed chamber (99 or 101cc), depends on casting #, but on a 396 that probably has domed pistons he may have to watch for compression, and maybe measure his deck height to be sure...

This is all greek to me, i'll admit i know nothing about BBC stuff. I will try to get my friend on here or maybe have him contact you guys. All i know is he has a 396 car block with some sort of aftermarket Highly domed pistons, bored .010 over, yes, .010 for some reason. He was told to look for these 820 heads, but im sure you guys are correct, there are pobably dozens of other castings that will work too. The concern seemed to be with piston-to-combustionchamber-clearance.
Thanks for all the help and info, i will surely pass it along to him

There's a rebuilt set, oval port open chamber, in the BS for $500, no casting #'s though... i'd recommend he post his info and question on Team Chevelle, there's a lot of BBC knowledge and several top notch engine builders that reply regularly on there...
I have the stock dome on mine with 820 heads, which i think equates to just less than 9:1. If he has any aftermarket cam, make sure he puts more total timing into it... like 15 initial and 38 total... i think stock is 6 or 9 initial. He probably wants to keep it under 10:1 with pump gas...
