wow, makes me feel not as stupid
i have to admit i'm just starting to get my hands dirty mechanically so i'm really learning the basics
the other day i did my own front brakes changing pads and rotors
after which i notice a grinding as it happens i very stupidly put a pad on backwards...rookie mistake
anyway fixed my problem and all is well, at least i did it on a Toyota

Yup!!!
Bad Oil change procedure.cry  Must tel you that my 65 Canadian RHD Malibu also required an oil change after standing for 25 years! blankstare What I did was to replace the old oil filter and started the engine.  Drove it for about 600 miles with the old oil until until the oil became really black! idea Drained the oil and fitted a new oil filter with fresh 20W50 miniral oil.  Has now run for about 500 miles with the fresh oil and will be replaced very soon again.  NO ENGINE FLUSH!!! awwand the straight six is purring like a "48" motor.  No bearing knocks, does 90Mph and has all the power  you can think of!!  Told my friends that these engines are to stupid to know they are broken. weirdface The secret is not to flush the old gunk into the journals!!!  Rather use two or three oil filter and oil changes and stay away from synthetic oil!!! on these old engines.

Saved myself a lot of bucks! and busted knucklesidea

You are right, but you only need to view the first 2 posts to sum up the whole story.

That's makes me sick.
Sure wasn't the smartest thing to do to a motor and I think he learned the hard way, but these forums are for the love of cars and to ask questions when you don't know something.
If you make a big mistake......your treated as the forum idiot! Yet another user told him to flush it with 40-50 gallons of water at idle.

I couldnt post it with out adding the 1st response as I feel it pretty much sums up the obvious.

ORIGINAL: MarkNieb

My car was idling like crap the other day so I figured since I just got it, it may have been awhile since anyone changed the oil out. I decided to go ahead and change the oil. I used Mobile 1 synthentic oil like I was reccomended on here. Anyways, I drain out the oil and noticed it was extremely dark and even after 10 minutes of draining, it was still coming out. I decided to go ahead and flush it to make sure all the bad stuff got out. I hooked up the hose, ran water through the engine, started it up and was waiting for the water to come out clean (The engine never went above idle so I was told this would be ok). Anyways, About 3 minutes into this, then engine starts shaking and shuts off. I figured it was all cleaned out so I plugged it up, added the oil and figured I was ready to go. WRONG! The car won't freaking start now. This car has been nothing but trouble for me, I think I am done with it.
YOU REALLY ARE A MORON. CONSIDER TAKING MASS TRANSIT!!!

YOU CAN NOT RUN WATER THROUGH THE CRANKCASE OF AN ENGINE. IT IS NOW SEIZED UP AND WILL NEED REPLACING. PLEASE FIND ANOTHER HOBBY BECAUSE YOU SUCK AT THIS ONE!!!

People argue that it was a fake post or it was just a way to get attention to the site. But others claim they new the guy, and others claim they viewed his other posts and threads he had created and it seemed he really does have little knowledge of cars. Its one of those things we just can't tell if its real or not.

That's almost as bad as the post on one of the ricer boards where someone said they cut a hole in their floors so that the gas pedal would travel farther thus giving him more power......

Here is a good redneck idea : Cut a hole trough your beater rusted out floor to go ice fishing in the winter, on the Quinte bay is a good place to do it, you can fish in comfort with your engine running and heater on ! Don't forget to take the fish out of the car when you get home. Also you can use your wiper blades for fishing rods. LOL !

A crankcase flush & fill...those Rustang guys have always been a strange bunch!.

Kind've a hazy memory but does anyone remember a magazine test they did in the 60's when they put some kind of snake oil in the crankcases and drained the oil to see how many laps they could get...maybe Mosport late 60's and 66/67 Chevelles/Beaumont sedan test cars?.

confused

Well to everyone thats sending me messages, the jokes on you for actually believing this and still talking about it over a year later. Was just a big joke started by OneFastEclipes just to see peoples reactions, and apparently its reached just about every car forum around so guess its safe to say we won. I dont own a mustang nor have ever owned one, so no i dont have a cobra to sell you.
