December 2008 Feature Car

For a long time old 6 cylinder cars didn't get any respect. If it was a 4 door, it got parted out. If it was a 2 door, a V8 pretty much always replaced the stock 6 banger. It's nice to see some folks resist the temptation to pull the inliner from their classic car. It's even nicer to see a factory 6 cylinder car get a full nut and bolt restoration back to original condition. A perfect example is Bob and Diana Janssen's immaculate 1965 Acadian Invader. Having scored a very solid example, the Janssens sent the Acadian to Terry Casimir who treated the car to a full mechanical and cosmetic restoration. Seven months later the Acadian emerged the beauty you see today. As nice as the car is (with such kudos as being featured in the March/April issue of Canadian Classic's magazine and won third place with a score of 97.6 at the 43rd Concours d'Elegance june 17th 2006 in Brampton) it is a driver, logging several hundred KM's each season. The rebuilt 194 C.I six moves the car out nicely while delivering good fuel economy. Gear shifts are handled by the two speed Powerglide transmission. Radio? Who needs a radio when you have that unique stovebolt exhaust note to listen to? She's named "Plain Jane". The pictures tell the rest of the story:

What a beautiful car!!!

And what a tremendous job on the restoration.

I noticed my 65 had the same "Rx" written on the firewall by the heater motor/heater hoses. I wonder what that meant?

This is an excellent choice for this month's feature car. Bob you and Diana should be very proud of your beautiful "Plain Jane".

Sweet car ! I once had a 65 Acadian Canso 194 auto, sold it to a truck driver from London-never seen it again, the guy had a wagon too, mine had been gone over with new floor pans and 2 x 3 tied frame, rebuilt six-makes me wanna buy another !

Such a nice and simple car. Only a purist would restore a base model with a six like that. Personally I love to see the stripped down models with the rubber mat, no rear armrest and no radio. Cars like that used to be seen once upon a time, but now it is rare to see one, let alone left stock. I'll bet that 194 is smooth-running and gets great mileage. I'm guessing between 30 - 35 Imperial mpg. at 50 - 60 mph in proper tune.

Exactly the car I would love to own ... all original! It's not the size of the engine ... it's the magic in it! Beautiful! A-1!

I don't think I have ever seen such a thorough restoration on a 6 banger - very well done. The historical vehicle licence plates are very appropriate, that is a very well preserved example of our automotive history and it is nice to see one "as they were in my youth". thumbsup.gif

BTW, love the bias ply thin whitewalls - where did you find those?
Did you ever think of slipping a 292 in there instead of the 194? devilish.gif

Very nice you got to love those old in line 6s they go on for ever and are very inexpensive to maintain. Glad to see it was left stock and not all hacked up.

   To All Club Member's,
Thank you for all the great comments about our car. It was wonderful to have our car featured in a magazine, but by having our car featured on Canadian Poncho, and then reading all the feedback from our car it really makes me even more proud of Plain Jane. A special thanks to 69 Laurentian for the awesome write up, and lots of pictures. Unfortunately we want to go cruising now! (and it keeps snowing).
