And to think our politicians were engaged in a piss up trying to snatch power to become Prime Minister while these boys gave it all fighting for our Democratic rights.
It is complicated but it has to do with blowing up the World Trade Center and eliminating the breeding ground of terrorism add in the fact that women and children have no rights whatsoever under the Taliban. We are fighting to provide hope for future generations of women and young girls who are denied any education or freedoms. Our boys are trying to train Afghan soliders to be able to provided their own security over the Taliban and protect a democratic government.
Russia was engaged in an Imperial War, we are trying to help them get self government and freedom. It is also important to note that no serious terrorist threats have been committed on North American soil since we went in there, not a coincidence. Bush had it all wrong as we know, the Taliban is the real enemy not Iraq. Obama has pledged to increase US troops to 20,000 in Afghanistan once he is in office so once that happens all hell is going to break loose over there.
This is very tragic news. It has affected a lot of Canadian families with loss of a loved one. To leave there now would be a greater tragedy in the long run. I do believe we are doing good for the people of the country. To pack up and go now will allow terrorists to take back over. That could happen, and we could help prevent it. As a country we will all be better for it.
I agree, eeluddy, I've had one nephew who's completed 2 stints over there already. Like to think that his time and energy and that of all the others serving/served over there, and our prayers have been helpful to the people over there.
The Winnipeg Free Press Nov 10 had a picture of each Canadian who lost a life there. I looked at it very silently and had never realized before how many people are affected (friends, extended family etc.)
