At least 5 vehicles sold at Pontiac dealerships in that photo. Must be a good dealer in town.

Before the Knox Mountain Hillclimb there was the Okanagan Hillclimb. From 1962 to 1965 the Okanagan Hillclimb was held in Okanagan Centre,

starting on Camp Road (by the old Winoka Packing House) running up past the present day location of the Grey Monk Winery. By 1964,

it was so popular that race drivers from circuits like Westwood in Coquitlam and other circuits from around the Pacific Northwest would make the trip up to Okanagan Centre.

At one point, a reported 5,000 spectators were in attendance. For the 1966 event, organizer, Okanagan Auto Sport Club (OASC),

realized that the Hillclimb had grown too large for the Okanagan Centre location and approached the City of Kelowna for permission to use the newly-paved Knox Mountain Parkway.

The city and mayor welcomed the move and the rest as they say is history.

Remember when we couldn't wait for the Old Car Trader to come out? I also remember knowing which stores had the weekly Auto Trader first so I could get a jump on any deals there might be.

I drove it in the mid eighties and it was parked. Dad took the engine and put it into his 1/2 ton that now sits at my sisters acreage for yard duty. Around 91 or 92 I had 327 from a stillborn stockcar project and put it into the car and drove it for a year. Ended up selling the car to some farm kids that wanted the engine for a late 40's or early 50's car to do burnouts in. For all I know the Strato Chief is sitting in farm yard an hour out of town.

My Uncle Raymond and Aunt Evelyn in their 1961 Impala

I always remember it, as Uncle Raymond looked at it and waited until the 62's came out, so he would save 400.00 by buying it new hmm
