Assembly Manuals for our cars?

Does anyone know if GM issued "assembly manuals" for our cars? I've never seen any assembly manual but I suspect they are different then the shop manual? I'd love to have one if they did.

Do they have instructions like "Scrape away plating where modelling cement must go"? biggrin

Todd, either I have been negligent or you are forgetful! I thought I had told you guys I have 63 to 87 GM vehicle assembly manuals. One problem. They are on microfiche cards. I have no way to print them off.

I am still hoping to find a microfiche viewer with a printer that I can afford. No luck so far.

Morning Carl,

When I worked at GMSA in Port Elizabeth, I recall the Micro-Fiche system. To make prints was quite a task as it had to be enlarged, and somehow printed on a machine that gave you a plastic positive for making Ozalid prints (Blue Prints)! Mega Bucks!!!  Have you thought of scanning and converting to digital?  Slow process, labour of love!!

I'm not sure how you mean to scan them.

I have no way to blow them up to full size except on the screen of my microfiche reader. From there I have no way to transfer it digitally or on to paper.

Let me see if I can come up with something! I have some glass plates similar to Micro-Fiche.

Oh, now I understand. I am no scanner expert. I didn't realize I could change the magnification.

Someone once mentioned the library in Winnipeg might have one.

I asked my friend at he GM Zone office in Winnipeg before it closed but they had already thrown the old ones out that they had. Too bad, I could have reunited these microfiche cards with the machines they were used to.

Carl,
My idea of scanning does not work! You could perhaps project the image and take digital photos! Lots of patience!

Micro-Fiche is wat it says (Micro) Having a large number of pages on one film makes it impossible to read without the proper reader. Perhaps you could advertise for a reader. There must be one somewhere! Innovate!!!!

I have a reader that I bought from a GM dealer that was closed so I am able to look up all the info. I just  have no way to copy it to be able to share it with others, and that is my goal. It would be so nice to be able to copy and send the pages to those who need them.

When you put the fish into the "reader"  you are able to read it ,right?  Can you not photograph what you see?    just a thought

No, I tried. Maybe if I had a camera I could set shutter speed and shut off the flash.

Try your local Mormon Church. If they have a genealogy/family history centre they are sure to have a reader and most likely one that you can print from. The church is still using the technology to copy old data like census records etc. The cost should be reasonable because they only cover their costs and don't make a profit. Let me know if you can find one in your local white pages as I maybe able to help further.

There are companies that will convert the old micro fische to PDF or print them. If this is something you want to do Carl let me know and I will check into it for you.

My biggest fear is letting the microfiche go out of my hands to be copied. I can't replace them if they are lost or ruined.

Our DHL driver is a Mormon, I will ask him. Thanks for the tip.

Silly question but does anyone know what would happen if I put a fiche card on an overhead projector? Any hope of that working if the projector was far enough from the screen?

If so, a good digital camera would do the job then. Just need no flash, long shutter opening I would think.

I have done this with a good digital camera and a projection screen and it works!

He has the Canadian Pontiac ones on paper? That would be excellent. It would take one of my projects away that I really don't have time for anyway, and that was to get them in a format I could share them.

Does he have all lines, all years?
