Hi guys, Does anyone have any numbers regarding total production for 1970 in Oshawa ? Was it only Pontiac A body ? Any other A bodys built on same line ? Thanks. Jim
1970 calendar year production for pontiac for gm canada with exports was 74 391 im assuming thats oshawa and st terese and all pontiac body styles made there
I know there were some Cutlasses built in Canada as well as F-85s but I have never come across a 4-4-2 built in Canada. GM did a lot of shifting around of A body production in the late 60's and early 70's. It must have been very confusing and inefficient for a few years having to ship model specific parts around to different plants.
What figures do you have for A body convertible production in Oshawa Fred? Obviously Beaumont and Chevelle ragtops were built there but I don't think any of the other A bodies ever were.

Thanks guys for all the info, perhaps I should rephrase my question, how many Tempest/Lemans/GTO were made in Oshawa that year ? My Judge is one of 422 or so, and my 455 H/O is one of 83. Just trying to get an idea of percentages of hot rods to grocery getters the line workers built.
I don't know the production figures, but 1970 was the only year that GTO Judge rolled off the line in Oshawa. Of those there was only ONE powered by the L75 455 (a torque motor; the Ram Air 400s were the hot ones that year).

What the heck is M31? M13 is was h.d. 3-speed manual, although I think by then it was MC1. M35 is Powerglide, M38 (sometimes M40) meant TH350, M40 was TH400 (& sometime TH350)

If you haven't seen the production numbers, how do you know there was just ONE built with the L75?

What I should have done was have a coffee, let it sink in, THEN type. What I should have said was that I have not seen the COMPLETE production figures. Somewhere among my magazines and brochures was an article that profiled the 1970 Judge. It gave production totals by plant. It showed very few Judges coming out of Oshawa, and only 1 with the 455. Another article in another magazine said that GTOs only came out of Oshawa in 1970, and in another magazine (Pontiac High Performance?) a reader submitted a picture of his black Oshawa-built 1970 GTO Judge hardtop and re-iterated that 1970 was the only year the GTO rolled off the line in Oshawa.
Re-reading my earlier post, it reminded me of an incident at an airport where an airport baggage checker asked this guy "has anyone handled your baggage that you are not aware of ?" The guy replied "If I'm not aware of it then how would I know ?" The airport baggage checker simply said with a self-satisfied and all-knowing look "that's why we ask!"

OK, and I'm sure Big Ray will chime in here to correct me if I'm wrong, but I was almost certain that 73 GTOs were also assembled in Oshawa. I am pretty skeptical about what I read in some of those magazines; some of the research is pretty poor. The only thing I take as gospel is conversations with people who actually worked at the plant or GM and are in a position to know such things, people like John Sawruk, Padgett Peterson or Fred Simmonds.
What I really wish is that George Z. would let us go wild in examining all his microfiches.
