I recently scored an original Canadian Pontiac dealer brochure (stamped from Roger Motors in West Vancouver BC, printed by GM of Canada in Oshawa) and it shows every Canadian model for 1956, and lists full specs including Factory-Installed Optional Equipment, and shows Heater and Defroster as "Automatic Option" which I assume means that you had to buy it since, hey, Canada is not know for mild winters
"Heater Delete" cars were one of the hallmarks of superfast factory cars in the 60's, and factory racecars were built as light as possible for many many years. It's possible to find "Heater Delete" cars (or clones) in the US, but I wonder if anyone has ever seen a Canadian Pontiac like that?
Especially because the heater controls cover plate on the 55-56 Canadian Pontiac is unique compaed to the US Pontiacs, because of using Chevrolet chassis and steering components with the Pontiac dash (resulting in a weird offset of the steering column compared to the speedometer and the rest of the dash).
I pulled my nonfunctional heater out of my car (which is not really needed here in Florida anyway ) and yanked the heater controls (which were missing knobs and cables anyway) and fabricated my own cover plate from a spare piece of dash trim (picture below).
But I'd be interested to know if anyone has ever seen a true "Heater Delete" Canadian Pontiac and what it looked like?
It's unlikely you'll find a heater delete in a 55-56 Canadian Pontiac. While I'm not an expert on those cars, I had a 57 Chev. For 57 Chevs, there were 4 options available. 1-heater delete, 2-recirculating heater, 3-deluxe heater, 4-a/c. From what I understand, all Canadian built 57 Chevs had the deluxe heater or a/c (I imagine only a handful had a/c), whereas US built cars had any of the above options.
