I haven't heard this one for a while but then today one of my employees told me about a $500 Corvette that had the smell of a dead man and you could'nt give it away. I didn't embarass him too much but it ranks up there with the $50 Jeep in a crate. Whats the best one you have heard ?? My absolute best is a '30's Indian motorcycle stolen from the London Ontario police dept. Story goes it was burried on the north side of a barn on Wellington Rd. till the heat was off. Naturally he died without revealing the location ..........
Another is the guy who brags about the (insert make, model and engine here) that was so fast he could put a $50 bill on the dash and you would be pinned so hard in your seat you couldn't reach it!
www.olive-drab.com/od_mvg_jeeps_50dollars.php3 I know we all have heard it. But I own a 1943 "Ford GPW" army Jeep. In Jeep circles its like the $50 Vette advertized as a "Chev". The story apparently is it was a lure to get you to send 25 cents for a list of government auctions. I was all excited back in the '70's for '50's Triumphs. Ex Canadian military new in crate. Had to buy 20 at a time ...never could track that guy down ! All the Surplus stories probably had some slight element of truth at one time :)..... come to think of it the "RAM AIR IV" heads in the trunk of a parts car is a good one too.
The old woman with the "old Chev car for sale $50" Turns out it's a '57 fuelie Corvette her son parked in the barn ,went off to Vietnam and was killed.
When I was about 15 the gas station I worked at was a real hangout for all the hotrodders. One night a bunch of us were hanging around there and a guy pulled up, came in and asked us if anyone knew where he could find the 57 Chev 2 door hardtop that was for sale. The guy had put only 38 miles on it and then died. It had been stored ever since. Yeah, right. Turnip truck just went by and you fell off it, right buddy???

I remember about 15 years ago you could get surplus military Chevy crate 350's for next to nothing. I also seem to recall complete 4x4 pickups selling dirt cheap too. Anyone around here remember the details?
I keep hearing the story of a crashed 69 COPO Camaro sitting in a shed forever within reasonable distance of here. Wish a guy could confirm or disprove that one. Sounds like another urban legend but you never know..........

For a little while now I have heard stories of a place south of the city where LOTS of cars were parted and stripped, some rare ones too. Must be lots of parts from these cars somewhere??

You are absolutley right, you never know , and we are all junkies dreaming of that "barn find" . When I can't sleep I don't count sheep , I imagine hitting the barn find jackpot !
Here's a true Vietnam Vette story. Some of you probably have heard of the Ko-Motion Corvette before. I have a 1/64 model of this car. It still sends chills down my spine as I remember the East Coast cars from my youth http://www.komotioncorvette.com/history/history.html

It's true and the idiot that did all that 20 years ago is hosting the Manitoba CP meet in two weeks!!!

I used to go look at everything when I was single-the ones you go to see were never good or "as advertised" the ones you overlooked were the good ones.
I remember running for the auto trader hot off the press even traveling close to Toronto to get their edition-
one time there was a 70 LT1 Z28 M22 in Burlington for $7000, I call the guy he says it was originally orange repainted silver in 1977, short block was a CE, carpet fade, blisters in the dog leg area of the quarter panels-I didn't go. The next cruise night in the Falls a couple days later in pulls a super clean Cortex Silver 70 Z with Polyglas and all-I go look its clean really clean with slight blistering (of the paint) in the quarter panels so I start to tell the guy I'm going to Burlington tommorrow to see the same car-he says too late this is it !!!-mind you they were worth about 10-12 at the time, a deal in price but a great car to find.
Almost seems simple the guys who down play them sell the good cars-the guys who start out with the word "mint" well you know.

there was a 73/74 Trans Am in Welland a few years back (1994/95 maybe) rotten, really rotton, $800, Harry bought it for parts while building his GTO it had the manifolds he wanted, it was 4-speed, then later after buying it he found it had SD heads, ran the numbers with George turns out it was an SD car !
Ok heres one more, reverse position-man theres a lot of guys who believe the deal is out there.
Its the summer of 2002 I have a 61 Corvette for sale-350 auto in it, driver paint, been parked for quite a few years but currently licensed.
I advertise everywhere-especially the free ads-1961 Corvette roadster, 350 automatic, soft top only, decent driver $33,000.
Well the Tri Ad posts $3300 ! the phone rings off the hook for the first week-no joking I must have got 200 phone calls ! I still got calls months later ! anyway who really believes they can buy a driver 61 Corvette for $3300-well maybe it was a misprint $13,300 ? ya right
Not long before that maybe 1999 or so I run an ad in the Tri Ad 1964 Corvette coupe 327/365 hp 4-speed red on red, burnt front end, good restoration project $15,000-the phone rings off the hook-at least 50 calls-whats it need to certify ? hows the paint ?-OK guys its burnt ! did you miss the statement restoration project !
I currently have a rear spoiler for a 79 Camaro in the Smart Shopper news-it says 1975-81 Chev Camaro rear spoiler all three pieces $100, they call and ask if it runs, how much rust, whats the interior like ?
And the all time best was when I posted a picture of a Tonka Winnebago in the Smart Shopper for $70
