so yesterday evening , about 1/2 way done blowing out the driveway ... i hear a rattle , that escalate's to a hard knock & before i can reach down to the shutoff switch ... "boom" the blower motor stops so hard it lifted the tires off the ground about 4inches .... dead silence follows ..... then cursing .
i finished shoveling the driveway & put the snow blower away , dug out the paperwork ... looked it over & found that the 2year warrenty on the 3year old snowblower is no help .
before you ask the same question everybody else asked ... yes it had oil & yes it was recently changed (november)
that looks more then a replacement connecting rod. i had my mtd mower do something like that a couple of years ago. i put a used connecting rod in and shes still running and i don't spare the beast.
Looks like the rod bolt came loose, possible it was not torqued properly if you complain to an authorized dealer you may still get warrany. Snow blowers don't get as many hours on them as other small engine equiptment, you are at probably 10 -15 hrs a year depending where you are. So at say 45 hrs for you, well below all manufacturer's life cycle. I was in the small engine profession. Good luck !

i put in a phone call to home depot ( thats where it was purchased) & got the answer " sorry , its a 2 year warrenty , not a 3year"
i've emailed Tecumseh" & am just waiting now
i have a donated honda motor that i may try to get hooked up , but the sahft is a 1" & the oem was a 3/4" - so i'll have to match up some pulleys to make it fit
and the nitrous wasnt hooked up .... cuz i thought it still had warrenty but thats out the door now ! bwwwa ha ha ha

So after a week of searching for a cheap (aka - close to free) replacement engine to finish the winter with ... i went for my weekly walk through the local Princess Auto store . i took a look at ther surplus engines ... nothing worth taking home , but on my way out the door I saw a box with a 6.5hp ohv chinese honda clone ( powerfist) engine with the enticing price of $99.99 . for $100 bucks i really couldnt go wrong . i bolted the new motor up in less then 1 hr with minimal problems . i fired it up & she runs like a top ... revs out higher 3600RPM compared to the 3200 of the tecumseh . and it had i nice bonus of making a lot less noise then the old L-head motor .... Now i thought since it was down a bit in hp (6.5 compared to the 10hp) i would notice it bog down in the snow ... but it seems to handle the snow about the same as the techumseh did
so now that the snow blowere is operational , we should be looking forward to no snow for a while

Haha. My wife (bless her) loves to talk to me when I'm A) on here B) watching a car show
I spend all day talking to people at work so when I get home it's the last thing I want to do. I try so hard to pay attention but then I slowly fade awayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
SINCE WHEN IS less NOISE A good thing?
When you are walking behind it not riding in or on it. And when you are trying to watch TV and the wife wants to talk
i'm probably going to be pulling my machine apart tomorrow, i think the belt for the auger to lift the snow is worn out. i took the cover off and the belt looks worn out with belt scrapings or what ever that stuff is called all over the place.
I picked up a used Toro 4hp 21cut today, finally. I have been shovelling for many years and relying on kindness of neighbors. Tried to buy a new one, but everyone is sold out and no inventory coming. Too bad for the dealers, they could of sold plenty around Ingersoll/London area. It's good to be reminded of Princess Auto engines, Thanks! I got a gift certificate for Christmas for there. BTW, Steve, is that a J-Craft or Sanger in your avatar?
1982 sanger 19 ft flatbottom w/454 2x4 v-drive. would pull 6 skiers out of the water and if i matted it i would hit the water every 30 or 40 feet or more
