That is cool! I remember the air raid sirens in London being tested when I was a kid. I don't know if there are any functional sirens anymore. They would come in handy for Tornado alerts.

We had a siren on the top of the High School I went to. It was there from as far back as I can remember into the 70's. That thing terrified me everytime it went off.

They have recently installed similar sirens around the Nuclear Power plants in Ontario to warn of a Nuclear emergency.

This is for 69 belair. The Bluesmobile used a CLM industries air raid siren for a loud speaker. CLM was a Toronto company that supplied air raid sirens throughout Canada.

Ya, it was a fairly regular occurrance to test them, at least 3 or 4 times a year when I was a kid. Never thought of them as a collector item but as a relic of the Cold War I suspect there must be guys collecting them like we do cars.

I found this on youtube, TORONRO AIR RAID SIRENS. It was made recently so these things are still around on roof tops and towers. It is current so they don't run in the movie.

Wouldn't it make sense to keep these sirens maintained and operational? Like I said earlier, they were be a great early warning system for Tornadoes.

It's a good idea Todd but that would mean some level of government would have to take charge of them. I suppose it would be Environment Canada. Can you imagine the red tape, not to mention the taxes !!!!!

Maybe they could use them to warn us of snow falls in excess of 15 cm....the thing would be going off every othe d ay this season!
