Guys iam looking at a 61 wagon that is a project, im wondering if anyone can tell me about best parts inerchanging
ie, it is missing bumpers, do chevy ones fit, or are they specific to this model only or is a same year 4dr laurentian my best bet for the all the parts that i have yet to discover are missing. thanks ga
None of those parts from a Chevy will fit. Bumpers and all trim are different. Some body parts from US Pontiacs will fit. Mechanical and chassis parts are mostly interchangeable. A 4 door laurentian would be a good parts car. Good luck witht he project if you take it on.
Not sure if you're in Alberta but there is a 61 Pontiac wagon project for sale at this link. Maybe this is the one you'e interested in? Also a couple of early 60s Chevy wagons. http://edsprojectcars.com/project_cars_for_sale.htm
thats the one alright, looks interesting in the pics ive requested more pics and close up from the guy, to see just how much of a project it really is...i dont mind some work but a 5 yr restoration isnt my plan.. my part of the world, southern ontario is kinda light on vintage canadian wagons..go figure!

There had to have been as many or more wagons sold in Ontario & Quebec as in the west, but the climate out west is just more conducive to preserving the cars. Back in the mid 80s I bought a 58 Ford wagon that came out of a farmer's field in Alberta. It was over 25 years old then, and was largely rust free. But after just over 10 years in a damper & more variable climate it was a rust bucket.
it seems that everyone remembers having one, but your right, i think the climate around here "kills" them off.. I got some more pics of that 61 and it looks like a never ending project, but then again isnt everything..not sure i am up for that much work
there was a 59 wagon on here awhile ago for sale in st.cathrines. Would have bought it myself if i had a $1000 bucks layin around at the time. Where are you located? and by the way my last name is armstrong also.
cool, we could start are own armstrong sub group haha.. im in sarnia, ontario right on the border, where american cars are handy, but i guess i need to make my life challenging looking for a canadian wagon....
Rod , up at Rod's Project Cars in Saskatoon has a 62 Strato Chief wagon for sale. A lot of work has been done to it -- I did it! It is still a project. The car is an orig. v8 PS PB car. The 283 was done so I put in a warmed over 305/4v, a new Minute Muffler dual exhaust, along with a 700r4 trans. the steering has been updated to the 605 steering box, although the box may have to be replaced. still needs body work, upholstery and finishing. It may be worth a look for you
A friend of mine knew of a 61 wagon in Sask also, It was a complete running car if I recall, and I think they wanted around $1000 for it. I'll see if I can dig up the pics and more info on it...
