My interest in NASCAR has really dwindled in the years since"Days of Blunder" and all the hoopla that followed. But I'm suprised no one on here even mentioned it. I did see the Camaro Pace Car, but no mention of it by the broadcasters. As soon as I heard them yapping about how great Jack Rousch is ,he had 5 different cars in the race, I realized why I don't watch anymore! Corporate America ruins a great pastime for me. Any thoughts from more of you old timers?
For me I miss the old days on Wide World of Sports with Chris Economaki, the real stock cars, with real world engines and tracks with bleachers. All sports are the same these days, corporate America or Canada as the case may be has taken it all over and created some sanitzed all the same brand. I feel fortunate that I was alive to see the golden ages of a lot of sports and entertainment, even if I was just a kid those classic memories are there forever. My first live hockey game at the Gardens was to see Detriot about 1962, they had this guy who wore #9 playing, awesome!
I had to see a hockey game at 3:30 yesterday but rushed home to see the race. What a bore. I don't mind Matt Kenseth winning tough, nice guy, even if he drives a Ford!
I didn't watch it, no cable. Saw the finish when we went to bowling. I used to watch it long time ago, i think the first one i watched and remember seeing the end of was Lake Speed beating Cale Yarborough...84 or 85...tough to remember much being 8 or 9. Watched it quite a bit up through 93/94. A guy here at work stopped going to watch the race at Daytona once they implemented restricter plates around 88. I don't like the format now, with it starting later in the afternoon. I sat in front of youtube for a few minutes yesterday watching some clips. Watched that classic end to the first telecast of the 500 on CBS flag to flag from 79, 30th anniversary of that fight between Allison and Yarborough. Now that was racing! Everything now seems so watered down. Got a seperate car for every track. I'd like to see more road circuits myself.
it's been going into the toilet since feb 18th 2001. should've just pulled a name out of a hat than end it like that. no effort at all to dry the track and have a great finish. it's more about appeasing the tv networks and corporate america. this f'ing COT is going to turn nascar into a 36 race IROC series.

Amen to that. Just the other day I mentioned to my wife that it seems like every commercial on U.S. TV is sold by a cartoon character. It's like the only way to get the viewers' attention is by cartoons.

I enjoyed it when CBS covered it back in the 70's. I have video of Daytona when most of the track was beach and Talledega when the track first opened. Those guys had balls. I remember reading back then if you went full throttle in the straightaway you could turn the wheel either way and get no response-there was that much lift! You had to take your foot off the gas at the turns or you'd go straight into the wall.
I like nascar as much as basketball........not at all !Was Happy as shiot to see the grizzlies sink here in B.C.
Maybe if we could find a way to combine the 2...

I think they should tell drivers its going to rain all the time best race Ive seen in a few years! Nice to see Dale JR take that guy out! good to see real racing.
Real racing happens in the rain. Not that Formula One is all that exciting anymore, but there have been some great races in the past run in the rain! I still think more road circuits, love watching them try to negotiate both right and left turns.
Actually this is my favourite form of V8 racing, cars that actually turn left AND RIGHT, plus the cars are a lot closer to what you can actually buy at a dealer, not those fabricated "stock" cars that make up NASCAR now and make the "STOCKCAR" part of the name an absolute joke. The Aussie cars are legitimately rear wheel drive cars as well.

I haven't been to a NASCAR race since the early '90's. Maybe it's just me, but when one guy(Jack Rousch) has 5 different teams and cars racing against other teams like GEM with multiple cars with the only difference being the stickers and paint, then throw in the cartoon gopher blocking the view of the cars... now a word from our sponsor, I give up!
It's not the same anymore, Yarborogh, petty, earnhardt Sr., Allison. It goes on and on. The car of crap, 5 car teams. and lastly the one word that destroyed the great American race, Wait for it, TOYOTA! Nuff said!
I watched and got frustrated with Jr's lack of focus. I am an Earnhardt fan through and through. I used to plan to watch the Nascar races. Now if I'm not doing anything important I plan my Thursday naps (never happens on Thurs.) in front of the Nascar races. . Naps are very important for us OOOldtimers who still work half time.
