My brother has a cabin southwest of Kenora and our's is northeast of Kenora. He is on an island, we are mainland. He usually has an ice road plowed close to his, apparently our's "sometimes" has been plowed. Nice day, so off we went.
Closest we could drive to our cabin was still a 3.6 km walk, so we canned that idea. Next we tried his and the closest ice road to his was at least a mile walk across the lake, likely about 12-14" of snow, so we canned that idea.
Doesn't matter, it was a gorgeous winter day. Total sunshine and about -8 in the Kenora area. It sure looks beautiful this time of year.
It may sometimes be very lonely out in the middle of the lake with nobody around but not today. There was ice fishing going on all over the place.

Our family cabin that has been around our family longer than me (since 1945) is in this area as well. It was fun to be able to get within a mile or so of it as well (on the lake). We could have driven to it by regular road but that was not our mission today.
I feel sorry somehow for people who don't have winter !!!

Nice pics Carl . You should invest in a sled then you could make it all the way. My boys and me put about 80 miles on the sleds yesterday . We took of from Gimli and went across the lake to Grand beach and back. then headed of on some bush trails . It was not as warm as today but it was still a nice winter day.
