Beautiful L79 Nova on ebay---beware!

I wouldn't normaly post this, but this is a good example of having to be alert when car buying.

Someone on Steve's Nova Site posted that this car looked great but the cowl tag looked fishy.

And it is.............. it's a cowl tag for an SS396 Chevelle!!!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___1966-L-79-NOVA-4-SPD-SS-23K-ORIG-EX-DRAG-REAL-DEAL_W0QQitemZ330309009875QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item330309009875&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A10|39%3A1|240%3A1308

Anyway, I went to ebay and checked out 2 other 66 Novas. Both have later serial numbers but were built 5 and 6 months earlier respectively!

Is it possible that the wrong photo of a cowl tag was posted.

If you read the above link you will understand it better. It is not a bad stamp, no question. The car is a fake, 99 out of a 100. You will see in the link above how easy that is to prove.

The only thing it could possibly be is that he wrote down the VIN wrong in the auction, but it still has a Chevelle cowl tag.

And yes, Novas had V8 cowl tags (in the US) even though the VIN overrides it when it says 6 cyl car. There are no 6 cyl cowl tags on US novas for some reason.

However this L79 Nova is for sure NOT an SS396 Malibu!!!

If Im not mistaken, maybe I should do somehomework. In the U.S. there were only 3- 67Nova 327-4sd cars. But more were available in Canada

Are you thinking of the "alleged" 6 L79 67 Novas in the States? Lots of rumours of that but not sure one has ever come up with bona fide documentation.

Thanks Carl, very good reading. It does look like a really nice car though.

Agreed, beautiful car.

I emailed the seller. We'll see what he says. I didn't tell him exactly what the problems were because he will just correct them and continue on with his sale if he's not an honest individual. If he is honest, he will pull his auction. This one will bite him if he sells it to an unsuspecting buyer who doesn't do his homework.

Seller ended the auction. I sure hope it's not because he got his money and sold it early.
