Pour a glass...pull up a chair...and enjoy this beauty

1955 Pontiac Star Chief Custom Catalina -- what a beauty!

How many cars can you name that offered a men's shaver and a lady's purse holder as options?

Interesting reading. It is amazing all the accessories that were available for the Americian built Pontiacs. The Canadian accessorie brochure has artists drawings of all the available accessories and the model number of the cars that they were available on. A few examples of accessories only available on Americian built 27-28 series Pontiacs are Grille Guard, Rear Bumper Wing Guards, Illuminated Hood Ornament, Rear Fender Panels and Wire Wheel Discs. A few only Canadian built 20-22 series available accessories are Accelerator Pad Protector, Gas Tank Locking Cap, Front Fender Shields and Body Sill Mouldings.

I wonder if the judges at the POCI convention would take this into consideration when judging the 55-56 Pontiacs. I have seen beautiful Canadian Laurentian convertibles with lots of US only designated accessories. How would these cars be judged? Would they lose points for the incorrect accessories? I have also seen a couple of Americian Pontiacs with the Chevrolet Front Fender Shields and Body Sill Mouldings. They fit perfect on both Americian 27-28 series but according to the brochure are correct only on the Canadian 20-22 series.

I know a salesman who sold Pontiacs new in 1955 and he told me he would sell the customer any accessory they wanted as long as it fit the car. He said a common one was the Fuel Door Lock.  Canadians wanted to make sure their gasoline was not stolen.

I don't remember ever seeing a Fuel Door Lock like that. I used to buy the locking gas caps at the local auto parts store, made for needing to carry one more key though. Has anyone ever seen a Fuel Door Lock like the one pictured in this article on eBay or anywhere?

And thanks, Bob, for posting this great article.
