54 pontiac engine

Ive got a question about Pontiac engines,Ive just bought back my old high school car thats been sitting in a shed for the last 30 years, where I parked it for the new owner back in 1979.Time has taken its toll on the old beast but bec ause it means alot to me im going to fix it no matter how long it takes. The motor is seized solid but I have located a 52 Pontiac that runs with an automatic tranny and was wondering if they are the same,it would probably be the least expensive way to go to getting it back to life again. Also if I do get the 52 Pontiac I will be parting it out after Im done with it,its a 4 door,so if anyone is looking for parts just let me know, thanks,Rob

Hi,

if you talk about sixes, for me the 54 is more desirable then the 52. The 53-54 engine are 2 barrel carb. and a "new" design cam. They breath better and run smoother and a bit performer.

May be the 54 is not "fixable", but if yes, for me the 54 is the way to go.

good luck.

Fitz.

Had to get it home quick and clean it up before the wife got home.lol.
Not sure what model it is,anyone out there know?

very nice car!

for me this is a Pathfinder. It as the base body trim, that's why it is not a Laurentian.

Where did you find this car?

Fitz.

PS: the picture are very cool.

Post the first 5 numbers of the serial number and the letters that follow them . I will be able ti id the car with this info. My guess is 2011W 2 dr. notch back sedan. Pathfinder deluxe. A plain Pathfinder would have no stainless around the windshield.

I agree also, I dont know as much about the 239 a Andre does but I think he's right on. 53/54 239 is a bit better in some ways.

Thanks for all the info guys, this is really a great way to find out info fast, lots of knowledgable people here.I found the car in Langley BC,just up the road from my house at the time,Ive since moved up to Gibsons BC and love it here, lots of car nuts up here too,but sadly mostly Dodge fanatics, oops can I say that word on here?
I drove the car for a few months before trading it straight across for a 64 pontiac custom sport 2drht,I thought wow did I get a great deal untill the frame broke in two a few months later and of coarse he wouldnt trade back lol.So the 54 was boarded up in the shed and I totally forgot about it,even though I must have driven past it a thousand times
I got no keys with the car when i bought it back, the doors were rusted shut along with the hood, but in my vast collection of keys I found a set that worked on the trunk, and when I popped it open it was full of extra pontiac parts that I remember giving along with the deal at the time!
Ill put up some serial numbers tomorrow to find out what modle it is for sure.

Very cool.

While I have always been a fan of the Ponchos from 55 and up, you earlier guys are starting to sway my thinking seeing these different earlier projects. I'm starting to like them a whole bunch.

Check the model number for the letter after 2011. The letter will designate the actual series the car is. 2011 id's the car as a two door notch back the W  or WD will designate the Pathfinder, Pathfinder  Deluxe  etc.
